Millions of private vehicles transport essentials in Australia every day - they transport the labor to work.

My concern is that oil supply will peak (or has peaked), will plataeu along for a time then drop off sharply. This trend has been observed in larger fields. Small fields tend to peak quickly and fall quickly but large ones come to a plateau, continue along then without warning, go into sudden decline. We could likely see a rough ride into the next energy source (economic mayhem, wars to sieze control of reserves etc).

It is exciting to imagine what will ultimately replace petroleum but probably a bit naive to blithly assume that this will be such a smooth transition.
