Ha, first the Fibs (Sheepy plus rightwing reporters and 'commentators' like Andrew Dolt & the Cane Toad etc etc) say Rudd is in the pay of China, now they are saying he shouldn't call them a potential rival.
Re Rio, it bought Alcan a canadian aluminium producer recently at the height of the boom and financed the takeover with debt. It has tried selling subsidiaries and smaller prospects but with the boom over that has not been successful. It faces real problems when it has to roll over that debt in todays financial environment.
So, what is Rio to do? If the govt knocks back the Chinalco bid (which it will) it can approach BHP Billiton for a merger and if BHP is not interested then what? Easy to say oh no those slant eyes shouldn't be able to invest in Rio but what else can Rio do?
The govt could perhaps use the FF to provide debt and equity finance: by doing this at the low point of the commodities price cycle this investment would produce healthy returns. Fuck the Future Fund anyway, it has about $40Bn in funds sitting in bank accounts and is losing ($40Bn and it can't make a profit?????) a bit every year.
Wouldn't it be nice if Howard hadn't wasted all that $390Bn buying elections???? Think what could be done with that dosh!!!!

Re: Can we trust China?
Thank fuck the Future fund was put out of reach of the grubby hands of the left. The surplus generated by the greatest PM this country has ever seen and gifted to the most inept piece of shit ever to grease and slime his way into the public office has been thrown away with no perceivable benefit except for lining the pockets of Harvey Norman.

Think where we would have been if the Marxist Chauvinist ALP/ACTU hadnt fought a brutal class struggle for years to cause such stress in the community.Jovial Monk wrote:Wouldn't it be nice if Howard hadn't wasted all that $390Bn buying elections???? Think what could be done with that dosh!!!!
Thats where the balance of your argument lies Monk.
Now most are blinded by Saint Rudd, and he's pulled the plug.
Money well spent on social modernity and stability, instead of the hostile situation we are now in, was almost justified by the Liberal expenditure.
On balance, it sure adds up now.

That is what Al Gore is going to say when swine flue kills off half the population of our planet, thus making his carbon footprint finally equal everyone else on the planet.White Indigene wrote: On balance, it sure adds up now.

Re: Can we trust China?
Swine flu is actually avian flu contracted by birds dropping their germs on pigs and in their swill. Most governments have got a stockpile of anti-vaccines which will only go to those who are worthwhile keeping alive. I wouldn't be surprised if this pandemic was created on purpose.

There is a precident for this. Remember when the Bush administration secretly tried to infect halibut with a mutated strain of the AIDS virus?mantra wrote:. I wouldn't be surprised if this pandemic was created on purpose.
They gave the secret contract to......wait for it.......Haliburton.
So it never got done.

Best PM? Well, next time you drive and your car hits a pothole or a train is late or your qantas jet crashes due to inadequate airspace controllers or whatever bit of crumbling infrastructure etc then thank that nice Mr Rodent for only thinking of himself and spending those hundreds of billions of tax dollars on buying elections.
OK, you can start kissing Howard arse again.
My dear retarded fuckwit, if you could get your mouth off Howard's flabby arse and look around you might realise that the person the FF was set up to put some money out of the reach of was--Howard! Tip was pretty useless as Treasurer and also fucking lazy. He was concerned about Howard's reckless spending but didn't do much about it apart from whinging but then he (or, far more likely, Treasury) came up with the idea of a big fund, the FF, to put a few billion away out of Howard's reach.Thank fuck the Future fund was put out of reach of the grubby hands of the left.

Bush, Cheney and the Haliburton conglomerate are behind everything evil in this world.......JW Frogen wrote:There is a precident for this. That's a good point Monk - Costello was keeping the money out of reach of Howard - but then to be fair - Costello and most of us would like it kept out of Rudd's hands as well. Even if this money doesn't eventually all go towards politicians' superannuation - there will no doubt be some serious need for part of it in the future more than just gambling on "tickling" the economy.

Re: Can we trust China?
Nah. the Budget is pretty much an accrual document these days, provisions made for stuff like PS Super. We have a crying need for cash, e.g. that investment in Rio that I would like to see would treble the value of the FF in a few very short years.
