Re: Second blast at NZ coal mine
The future of electricity generation needs to be a mix off all these things, fed into the grid to even out shortages. Wind and solar are intermitent, so need back-up from traditional coal/gas generators, or nukes to cover peak needs. Everyone having their own solar/wind setup, contected to batteries is going to be inefficent. If everyone had a self funded solar/wind generator feeding into the grid, however...

Re: Second blast at NZ coal mine
Something about this story smells a bit fishy.
After the first splosion, all the talk was about rescuing the potential survivors, who may have been far enough away to have survived.
After the second splosion, all of a sudden everyone's dead. WTF? How can they decide almost immediately that everyone's dead after the second one, but not after the first?
Sumpin stinks here. Like Oprah on the shittah.

That surprised me also. I assumed the mine was small and they were all contained in one area - but to pronounce them dead immediately made you wonder if there could have been survivors from the second blast that were wounded and needed rescuing urgently. After the second splosion, all of a sudden everyone's dead. There is probably going to be a royal commission (or whatever it's called in NZ) into this whole debacle - long term negligence being the alleged cause according to some.
