I am neither but I am against the privatisation of our remaining public assets, no matter who wants to do it.
Perhaps if Baird gets the message loud and clear before the election he will re-think his policies.

Too many state and federal assets are being sold and we haven't got a clue to whom. Whenever something is sold we have to pay twice - first to the government while they're paying off these assets and then to the new purchasers who want to recoup their money.

Personally I don't believe that any public assets that are part of essential services should be sold off to private enterprise.

They shouldn't be sold off, especially to foreigners. If there comes a time when there's a global emergency - of course the foreign owners are going to supply to their own countries first.

Why? Wouldn't you like Faux Fax or Murdoch owning your Electricity Company?Rorschach wrote:Personally I don't believe that any public assets that are part of essential services should be sold off to private enterprise.

What Government-owned public assets run at a profit? Or even balance the books? None.
Do the trains and buses run on time and make a profit? Nope. How many Council workers go out to fix a hole in a suburban road, 5? 6?
I recall ringing the Council (when I lived in Sydney) to have a dead tree removed. It was a mere Melalueuca suckling that they always planted on nature strips ... but had died and looked untidy. A day or so later a truck with 6 "workers" turned up. One drove the truck, another had a shovel, a third seemed to be "supervising" a fourth put the removed tree on the truck, the fifth planted the new little tree and the 6th had a watering can. I kid you not!
I believe that less Government is better. Don't tell me that the Rates we pay are used to "fix stuff". More likely they are used to pay useless, shiny bums and shovel leaners.

According to the news today the power network earned the government $1.7 billion in dividends last year (the same the year before) and the general consensus is that it will be sold to the Chinese.Neferti~ wrote:Why? Government run "utilities" run at a loss, don't they?

No thanks. I will not support this.

Black Orchid, I don't live in Sydenee as I think everybody here knows. I don't own a house there so I do not pay NSW State Government tax. ACT taxes are even higher than what you pay up there. Believe me. (I don't have a link ..)
We ALL think that our Local Governments are not worth a piece of shit ...
We could all move to Sunny Queensland now that they have an ALP State Government, again, where everything is paid for by The State Government. Sunny one day, shot and bankrupt, the next.

Canberra for all the shit it gets is not such a bad place to live. Remember I was born in Melbourne and lived in Sydney for years too. Unemployment is lower than anywhere else in Australia. Food, etc is equal to Sydney. Petrol etc is more expensive. There are many houses over the $million+ mark.
Oh and I have never seen a Politician "in the flesh" here. They do NOT live in Canberra, they only come here when Parliament is Sitting ....... so.

This isn't about our local Council it's about a NSW state sell off. Sure the local guy will miss out on votes and probably through no fault of his own. Too bad.
I refuse to pay billions in profit to the Chinese when it should stay in NSW.
