However they should be performance managed.
How?
How about being monetarily penalized when they do something stupid, like change border protection laws that lead to mass illegal immigration?

Maybe they could be messured by some terms of reference that can be managed as part of their manifesto and 50% of their salary be linked to this performance. In the west, ecconomic performance is important. maybe debt reduction commitments ..etc depending on where we are in the cycle
That would be a great way to get politicians to sacrifice all other goals in the name of debt reduction. One key lesson from the private sector is that you have to be extremely careful in establishing KPI's, otherwise they end up having the opposite effect to what was broadly intended. For a political role that is supposed to balance so many immeasurable goals, it is impossible.
Let's make it simple. The manifesto the were elected on should be converted into measurable commitments and they are paid the bonus on fulfilly these commitments.... how's that.
Sounds like a good way to give politicians an enourmous salary boost. Who exactly is going to be the judge?

An independant performance review panel could be created. Hell another Quango will not be noticed.

It'd save you reposting what they already have also.

I see. So politicians appoint people to judge whether their bonuses should be enourmous or merely huge?

I have no issue with Gillard being paid a base wage of say $120k and KPIs set to where she earns her current salary.
Based on current performance, there's a $370k saving for the taxpayer already

That's how it would work.

That's how they all work includign royal commissions. The integrity of those appointed is what is important for it to work.

I agree IQ. Dillard would not be getting her bonus under this scheme.
