An ACT coroner has suggested mandatory immobilisers for cars likely to be targeted by thieves, after a high-speed crash that killed four people in Canberra in 2010.

Among the dead was a three-month-old baby, Brody Lee Oppelaar, and his parents Scott Oppelaar and Samantha Ford.

Coroner Peter Dingwall has found all three died instantly when they were hit by a stolen car driven by Justin Karl Williams in Narrabundah on March 20, 2010.

...

Mr Dingwall has cleared both officers of any responsibility for the crash.

"It is clear that the four tragic deaths which are the subject of these inquests were caused by the actions of Justin Karl Williams in driving a motor vehicle at an incredibly excessive speed," he said.

"Although it is clear that the reason he was driving in such a manner was to evade apprehension by officers of the New South Wales Police Force who were pursuing his vehicle, I am satisfied that no criticism can be made of those officers."
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

OK. You've dragged out a 4 year old thread. Why?

Same theme, obviously.

It's actually good to read one of boxys necromanced threads.
In this one he gives me hope that not all of the left are as retarded as I think they are. Although Monk and HS do a good job of that here.

Good one boxy :beer

Boxy lives "near" Canberra so *shrug* .....

He could have at least posted the image of the wreck ... for sympathy value, at the very least. Not everybody clicks on links to articles.

The location is irrelevant to the thread.

It's not just the same theme... it's the same fucking crash. Obviously, waiting for the coroner's inquiry to actually finish isn't for those with a short attention span :P

Both drivers were drug affected, Williams (in the stolen car) was 3 times over the limit for alcohol. Opelaar (the father of the baby) was affected by amphetamines and cannabis (although it would have affected his driving, it probably wasn't a contributing factor in this crash).

The baby capsule was belted in, however it's main anchoring strap (to the rear of the vehicle) wasn't attached at all, because there was a sub-woofer over the mounting point :x

The pursuit only lasted about 3 minutes. It was unknown, until after the collision that the vehicle was stolen, and the police were attempting to pull it over for speeding/dangerous driving that was observed before the pursuit started.
