The trade has to stop. Those in favour of this cruelty have lost the plot. We haven't got the excuse of being ignorant, but that's exactly what we are when it comes to this abhorrent trade. We turn a blind eye and think of the dollar sign. If we were so concerned about the plight of farmers, we would be helping the crop farmers more instead of allowing their land to be over-run with coal and gas corporations. No-one gives a stuff about the farmers, but they will when we reach a point when we have to import all our food products.
What next. Cut their tongues out to avoid foot and mouth disease?

AUSTRALIAN cattle exported to Egypt could have their ears chopped off before slaughter as part of the country's crackdown on hormone injections in animals, enraging animal activists.
The news from Egypt came as Prime Minister Julia Gillard called on her Pakistani counterpart Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to hold an investigation into the brutal culling of more than 20,000 Australian sheep in Karachi last month after authorities claimed they were diseased, despite independent tests showing healthy animals.
In Egypt, local media say a scientific committee has recommended Australian cattle have their ears removed before slaughter, following the discovery of hormone growth promotants in some animals' ears.

Well that quote just shows we are dealing with the ignorant.
These sorts of things can be easily overcome, but we aren't doing anything about it.

It's a moral issueNeferti~ wrote:Seriously. If Aussie farmers can't, American (or Brazilian?) farmers will. It is not a Greenie issue. It is a religious issue.
If they can't earn a living without living off the back of the inhumane treatment of animals they need to move off the land and find work elsewhereNeferti~ wrote:Farmers who have sheep for WOOL are more or less stuffed as well, anyway. What else does Australia do out there? Start Casinos in the Outback? Those guys have to earn a crust, one way or the other or they will go mad!
I hate to tell you this but not eating red meat does not classify you as vegetarian. Not even close LOLNeferti~ wrote:Are you a Vegie?
I have been, more-or-less for the last 6 months to prove a point about my cholesterol level. No cream or dairy products, no red meat, just Inghams "chicken breasts" and some Atlantic salmon or whatever. Lots of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. LOL

I didn't say a vegetarian. I know what they are. Do you know what a VEGAN is? They avoid dairy products and eggs which is what I have been doing for the past 6 months. I am not even a real Vegan .... as I eat fish and chicken, wear leather shoes, wool and silk.
It has been an experiment. If it hasn't worked I will go back to what I did previously.

So "Vegie" is short for Vegan, not Vegetarian.
Okay, I get it.

Yes I know what a VEGAN is. Thanks, but I don't need the education. I was a vegetarian for many years. The term "Vegie" refers to either a vegetarian or a couch vegetable
Technically you are someone who is temporarily abstaining from RED meat and dairy and it doesn't have a label but it's a good thing to do lol. I think high or low cholesterol comes with the genes unless you eat massive amounts of meat and/or dairy.
