We all know that a civil case has a lower standard of proof, and when criminal proceedings fail to provide justice civil proceeding often do, to some degree. Hint... there was one fairly high profile one in the last 12 months.

Civil cases without criminal proceedings occur far, far more than criminal+civil. Usually because some scumbag has managed to try and cover their tracks to avoid criminal prosecution.

Eg: A young an naieve lawyer sets up a bogus union organization for her boyfriend, extorts funds from construction companies and has them paid into bogus union orgs account. Sets up patsy to hand over power of attorney (falsely witnessed by young naieve lawyer) and buys assets in the patsies name thus avoiding any disclosure of assets during a divorce and launders the extorted funds.

Eg: Union uses a printing company and gives them a $700k/ year contract in return for two credit cards that allow them to rack up hookers, school fees, whatever they want...

Eg. Former head of union and president of ALP pays his wife $400k/ year for 'filing'

...but these are just isolated cases according to the ALP and their industrial arm

I say that this action by FWA tells us all that the police investigation is going nowhere..................if the Police intended to charge Thomson criminally, FWA would not have initiated these civil proceedings

On the 31st March, 2008, Nick was charged with a criminal offence concerning the altercation with Cowley. That criminal action was finalised when Nick was sentenced to imprisonment (suspended) in March, 2009.

Cowley did not commence his civil action against Nick for that same altercation until June, 2011.
