Rudd tried, failed and gave up despite having a clear mandate. Gillard got the job done, despite running a minority government.

Unless you are a myopic partisan chearleader, winning the election/polls kind of misses the point. If Rudd is too impotent to actually do anything, it is a wasted victory that harms the party in the long run - hence the Greens gradually eroding Labor's support base.

You understand that the people who will choose the leader on Monday are myopic partisan cheerleaders, right? I mean they literally lose their jobs and join the dole queue if their seat is lost. They stand not just to lose government, they will lose their paycheque. There's be no "Oh well we lost the election and I lost my seat, my job, my office, my govvie car and all expenses paid... I'm right fucked but better that than be gainfully employed with Herr Rudd in charge!"

No, winning the election is the whole point. It's the only thing.

That's an interesting take on him being booted, mid-term, by his own side, before their "big plans" could come to fruition.

The election is not till Oct last year—unless Rudd is elected PM. Which he won’t be, thankfully.

Rudd couldn’t get the ETS passed. Despite running a minority govt Gillard did!

Rudd did not have a mandate, unless you are a myopic partisan chearleader
Gillard got the job done, despite running a minority government.
Gillard had to get the job done because minority govt forced it on her.
A price she is paying dearly for because there was no mandate

I'm not even sure which glaring error to start with there...

Some might argue that it was BECAUSE of the minority govt, and the Greens having her by the short red curlies, that she passed ETS.

Nice ad hom. Stay classy.
You could choose to interpret it that way, or to see the point I was trying to make.
You understand that the people who will choose the leader on Monday are myopic partisan cheerleaders, right?
They are the players, not the chearleaders.
I mean they literally lose their jobs and join the dole queue if their seat is lost. They stand not just to lose government, they will lose their paycheque.
I wouldn't go that far. Most would get a raise. These people are the best in the country at what they do and the skills are easily transferable to many parts of the private sector.
That's an interesting take on him being booted, mid-term, by his own side, before their "big plans" could come to fruition
They had fallen in a heap and he had ruled out resurrecting them.
Rudd did not have a mandate
Yes he did. He won the election after labelling it the great moral challenge of our time. You don't get any closer to a mandate under our electoral system.

IQ gets it badly wrong, as usual.

A price on carbon was a promise from both sides in 2007 and a promise by Gillard in 2010 at the election that saw Greens numbers increase in the Senate and a Greens seat in HoR. Also, Windsor and Oakeshott voted for it.

Rudd leaking Cabinet secrets in the 2010 election affected the election outcome, stripping away 3% support.

Internal polling showed that the mandate was an illusion because the population got informed that it was a waste of money and no other countries were on board
It still is.

Green in the HOR only got in on lib preferences
Windsor and Oakshit voted for whatever would keep them in a pay packet for the longest and screw the nats. Like the GALP, they will be gawn

You will have no issue with repealing the tax when the GALP gets booted out.
It is the new mandate
