Only someone as dumb and biased as Arsie would think that Hewson had no idea how his tax would work. Labor and their media supporters tried to make a joke and a farce out of it, yet today we have the GST. Something Keating wanted and couldn't bring into being. Hewson understood it, Keating understood it and Howard understood it... apparently Arsie and his kind don't.

We often hear Abbott rabbitting on about the alleged poor judgement of Gillard in her dealings with Slipper and Thomson. Yet here is proof that Abbott provided a Court with evidence extolling the virtues of a pedo Priest. Say what you like about Gillard, but she has never made that sort of error in judgement.

Malcolm already stuffed up his chance to be leader

Tony Windsor reckons the Liberals would be certain to win this year’s election if they elevated Malcolm Turnbull to the leadership. He’s not necessarily wrong, but that doesn’t mean the Coalition should oblige. Amen to that.

We’ve heard this argument many times before - Abbott is personally unpopular, and installing Turnbull as leader would bring moderates, and even some disenchanted lefties, into the Coalition’s column in droves.

Looks good on paper, but it isn’t that simple. Turnbull wasn’t exactly universally acclaimed during his first stint as opposition leader. Abbott is unpopular, but Turnbull’s ratings were no better. ta dah!!!

In fairness to Malcolm, he was leader of the opposition during the height of Kevin Rudd’s popularity. It’s difficult to gain traction when you’re up against a sitting Prime Minister who seems to be coated in Teflon.

But Turnbull’s poor performance in the polls was not the only reason behind his removal from the leadership.

Malcolm either didn’t understand or didn’t care about the desires of most Coalition voters.
This was most obvious during the fight over Rudd’s signature ETS.

Turnbull angered his colleagues by ignoring their concerns about pushing forward with the ETS before the Copenhagen climate conference. He even slagged off a few Liberal members in public interviews.

That prompted six Coalition frontbenchers to resign from the shadow cabinet in protest, and made a leadership challenge inevitable. By the end, the Coalition’s voting base, encouraged by the influential voices on talkback radio, was crying out for a replacement.

Liberal voters haven’t forgotten their resentment of Turnbull. They would be outraged if the Liberals returned to the man Abbott deposed. Yep.

And I’m not convinced that Turnbull would be as popular with uncommitted and progressive voters as everyone claims. The man is Australia’s version of Mitt Romney – an immensely rich businessman with a focus on economic liberalism.

Romney didn’t do so well in the US election. He was successfully painted as a privileged, wealthy man with no understanding of regular people or their troubles. Turnbull would be vulnerable to the same attacks here. How successful would he be at relating to those all-so-important voters in western Sydney? Clearly he shows over and over again his concerns lay with the progressives and the so-called elite.

The Coalition is likely to win the election, regardless of who leads it. But the turmoil of a leadership swap could only damage the opposition in the short term, and it’s far from certain that Turnbull would do any better than the man who replaced him.

I have contacted this mans lawyers and let them know that a cab driver in QLD has defamed and slandered a man acquitted of any wrong doing

I don't understand your hatred of Turnbull, Roach. You claim you arn't a rusted on conservative, and yet whenever someone dares to say that Turnbull would make a good leader, you froth at the mouth about him being a Laborite in disguise. If, as you have tried to claim in the past, you are a swing voter who has voted Labor before, then surely he's just the man for you.

Na, you're a rusted on conservative, and the only way you swing is towards the radical nutcases whenever one pops it's head up (hi Pauline).
