Is that the only time they put him in the game, or did he make some other runs?

I'd like to see if he can do some blocking, before I praise him up too much. He's got potential at running the ball. But it is a team sport (even if positions are more specialised than pretty much any other).

Don't they run out a new team for defence vs attack.

I remember many years ago an Yank come to Sydney to play rugby league. Reported that we were mad play without full pads ...etc and went home crying like a baby. Ruby is more all round in skills requirement and tougher and a person needs to be all things rather than just specialising in being one things/role in the game. Running out a new team every time the ball is handed over funny. Even in war or chess, you cannot just roll out a new team when you like.

The offense also needs those big guys, protecting the QB, and punching holes in the defense for the running backs. But I'm not expecting Jarryd to be doing that. Even the running backs (and sometimes even wide receivers) lay down blocks when other players on their own team have the ball.

I hope to catch a full game with him playing soon.

BTW, the ABC's coverage of his first game wasn't negative at all. They of course showed the fumble, but showed his other runs, and the pass he caught for a good gain. Nothing outstanding yet, but he seems to be doing well.

"Players play football and sometimes SHIT happens" should have been the quote. Good on Jarryd.

49ers' coach 'very happy' with Hayne
San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula says he has total confidence in Jarryd Hayne despite the Australian fumbling his first punt.

Instead of dwelling on Hayne's first quarter mistake against the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday AEST, the coach pointed to the way the Sydney-raised rugby league star bounced back.

"No sir," Tomsula replied when asked if he had doubts about Hayne after he spilled the punt and the Vikings recovered the ball.

"Players play football and sometimes things happen.

"Jarryd has got the mindset, in my mind, that he'll overcome."

The 49ers won their regular season opener against the Minnesota Vikings 20-3.

Hayne had to step in and be back-up to 49ers' elite running back Carlos Hyde after veteran Reggie Bush's game ended early with a strained calf.

"Yes, I'm very happy with Jarryd," Tomsula, when asked about the Australian's play at running back, replied.

Next weekend the 49ers travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If Hayne keeps his job as punt returner he will go head-to-head with Steelers' Melbourne punter Jordan Berry.

Tomsula said he only decided Hayne would play the Vikings on the day of the game.

The same scenario will likely happen in Pittsburgh

It's nice to see that the coach appears to have confidence in Hayne. Stuff happens and it was just unfortunate that Hayne's mishap happened in the first quarter of his first real game.

He turned the tables around though thanks to the coach putting him back out there.

Hayne is under immense (world) pressure and he's only 27. Just let him play football.

Despite making a minimal impact in just two NFL games so far, Hayne sold more jerseys than any other running back in the league — with his 49ers teammate Carlos Hyde also cracking the top five in the position.
Seattle Seahawks superstar Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch had to settle for second spot.

Jarryd Hayne accused of "gender violence". What the hell is gender violence?
The allegation comes more than one year after the case was reviewed and rejected by the District Attorney's Office, which concluded there was not enough evidence to prove the crime of rape beyond reasonable doubt.
The action filed this week includes claims of sexual battery, gender violence, infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
According to court papers, Ms V was at a bar with friends in San Jose, California, after attending a football game between the 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals in the afternoon, where she met with Hayne and his friends.

Later, "[Hayne] took the now heavily intoxicated plaintiff back to his home in San Jose via Uber."

The papers state Ms V has no recollection of how she entered Hayne's home, and only remembers "seeing a silhouette of a man with [Hayne's] build coming towards her."
"The man put his hands on her shoulders and flipped her around ... instructed "no kissing" and shortly thereafter she felt extremely sharp pain in her vagina."

According to the court documents, when Ms V woke the next day Hayne was not there, and she took his undergarment "in case there was a need for testing" if she decided to report it to the police.

The lawsuit says that Ms. V was a virgin at the time and was afraid to come forward for several months, and eventually sought medical treatment for continued vaginal pain in April 2016. The hospital concluded that Ms. V had been sexually assaulted and contacted San Jose police as required by law, said Micha Star Liberty, another attorney for the victim.

Ms. V declined to talk with police at the time but did so the following month, Liberty said.

So she has no recollection of going into his house.

She only remembers the silhouette of a man with Hayne's build. Not Hayne himself.

She starts a civil (grab for money) suit 12 months after her claim was rejected by the DA's office.

No sign of Hayne yet she "grabs his underwear in case she decides to report it".

4 months after the alleged "gender violence" she attends a Hospital who alleges she has been raped.

Sorry I do NOT buy it. Not one little bit of it. :WTF
