Maybe they've discovered email??

Yeah, the Church of Latter Day Saints is a cult. Every time I rode in a taxi or Uber the driver told me he is a Mormon from somewhere else and moved to SLC because there weren't many Mormons where he came from. What does that sound like to you? One taxi driver came all the way from England. I mentioned he must like all the sunny days SLC gets and surprisingly he said no, he misses the rain and he has problems with dry skin there but he would probably be moving to Portland, Oregon to be with the American grandkids, a place with lots of rain.

They certainly have an extensive genealogical index.

I was told that Mormons have to trace their heritage back by at least 5 generations to get into Heaven. :b That's why they have done such a great job of scanning BDMs, transcribing them and putting them online, initially on FamilySearch.org. Now Ancestry.com or whatever has the original scanned copies.

Most of my Genealogy was done back in the 1990s and I used the online ScotlandsPeople.Gov.uk, mostly. It cost money but you got the original BDMs/Census material, etc ... all in original handwritten form and I downloaded those and printed them off for my files. I've had no experience with Ancestry as that came about after I had gone back as far as I can. The paper trail ends in the early 1700s and in some places the Parish Records were destroyed by fire or something so I hit the proverbial Brick wall!

I did a lot of research in the late 1980s and 1990s and then lost interest. I was lucky enough to get copies of many hand written documents free of cost but we did pay an overseas agent to trace one side of the family back to 1400 something.

I must try and find it all.

My Mother started the research in the late 1970s and did all the Australian stuff (from when they arrived in 1852), she didn't start on the Scottish research. She died in 1993 so I took over and did all the Scottish research. My sister got the bug about 6 years ago. She hired a Scottish Genealogist and paid lots of money and didn't get anything more than I got doing it the hard way ... in fact, I got more stuff as I joined some Forums and had people go to cemeteries and take pictures of Lairs and the like and pictures of where they lived and so forth. I am bored with it now and my sister has gone off on a tangent with "leaves" rather than branches or twigs. When you do it the way I did, I can remember dates and everything by my sister just mentioning a name. She can't recall anything as it was all done for her, so she has to "check her files".

I've only had contact with them when they've been door-knocking. You have to feel sorry for these young boys who have to spend their days knocking on doors and trying to preach to people who either don't like them or don't have the time to listen to them. I try to give them a few minutes before I reject them.
I politely say no thanks to them and quietly shut the door.

Of course my little kids then ask who the strangers were ... I answer 2 mormons...they then tell everyone they know for the next week that we were visited by 2 morons
I would rather die than sell my heart and soul to an online forum Anti Christ like you Monk

I've known a few. When they aren't proselytising they are very nice people. Most would give you the shirt off their back.

Another plus is Mormon chicks will give up the Hershey highway in a flash to "save their virginity" :f
