Really, then all those people waiting till 65 to retire in the past and expecting to get the pension were wrong then.... hmmmm.

Yes I guess they were. You can retire at 35 ( or any other age) if you can afford it. 65 was the mandatory retirement age for men and I think it was 60 for women (may have been 55). After retiring, most people draw on their super, if they have it, or some other government payment if they don't. The age pension was/is for people who have no other income.

Or until they run out of Super.
Some people will run out very quickly.
So The Pension is the safety net for most.
