Susan Mitchell? Good grief.
"Tony Abbott is a man educated and mentored by older men; aren't we all, never had an older man teach you anything Aussie?a man who has rarely worked outside institutions created and run by men," she writes. "He is a man . . . unable to comprehend what women -- who are 50 per cent of those Australians he wishes to govern -- need and expect from a modern leader . . . riiiight, he's married, has only daughters, has sisters and works with women uh-huh Abbott is not a bad man. No he is not. Or a mad man. No he is not. But he is, deep down, a very conservative Catholic man, nothing wrong with Conservatism, most Australian are. I gather he had no choice in his religion like most of us we are just born into it. So what's wrong with being a Catholic? a driven man, you mean a determined man, more determined than Julia or kevin or Bob or Paul? nah. who believes that he has a political and religious mission -- a calling to lead this country -- ya think... not just a bit of personal bias creeping in there? of course there is. that justifies everything he does or says. I think like most people what he thinks justifies everything he says and does, just like everyone else. And that could be viewed as making him a dangerous man." Could it? More than everyone else... you are kidding yourself. Give me a Conservative over a Progressive every day.

Spot on Nef... people either have very short memories or are so biased and blinded by propaganda they spout rubbish not reality.

Labor digging dirt on student days: Abbott
* From: AAP
* September 14, 2012 11:53AM

OPPOSITION Leader Tony Abbott has blamed a Labor "dirt unit" for promoting allegations he punched the wall next to a female student who beat him in a student election on a university campus in 1977. Well we know it exists they've discussed it openly before. We also know they know how to sling it. Just ask Kevin.

Mr Abbott on Friday repeatedly denied reports of the incident at Sydney University when questioned by reporters in Canberra.

"There is a Labor dirt unit," he said.

"Labor insiders went public back in June of this year. Yep and McTernan is at its head.

"There is a dirt unit and it is running out of the prime minister's office and it is being encouraged to dig up embarrassing facts ... or stories on the coalition."

Mr Abbott said in the run-up to the Queensland state election earlier this year there were personal attacks on now-Premier Campbell Newman and his family.

The government says Mr Abbott needs to make a full explanation about the 1977 story, but Mr Abbott says there's no point. I'd like to see them all up then, apologising for all the slights lies and bad behaviour they've been responsible for. Bloody hell, Albanese will be there for weeks.

"How can you make a statement about something that never happened," Mr Abbott said.

Some former Sydney University students have spoken out about the incident since it was raised in an article by journalist David Marr in the latest Quarterly Essay magazine. Seems they'll call anyone a Journalist these days.

Marr quotes former student Barbara Ramjan saying an angry Mr Abbott threw two punches at a wall near her after she beat him for the student representative council presidency.

Mr Abbott said each of the stories from the former students were different.

"Every single one of them is obviously from someone who plainly is on the other side of the political fence," he said.

Mr Abbott said people unprepared to put their names on the record shouldn't be taken seriously.

"People who say they were witnesses but then say they didn't actually see the event can't be taken seriously," he said.

"If there was anything to this claim it would have been raised long before now.

"It is 35 years ago, 35 long years ago." Yes it is a long time ago. Obviously Abbott no matter how they'd like it to be so, is not the same person he was in his youth. There are no (reliable) witnesses. Labor are so desperate they are asking Abbott to go back twice as far as Gillard.

Mr Abbott said Ms Ramjan had gone on the record about him at different times but hadn't raised this particular allegation until a few days ago.

He said if there was anything in it, it would have been reported in the student newspaper Honi Soit at the time.

"The fact is the incident that David Marr refers to in his essay simply didn't happen," he said.

"I have no recollection of it because it didn't happen. If it had happened I would have a recollection." Well, whether or not it did, he has plausible deniability. Personally I can see that if it did happen, that it may not have happened exactly as described by Helen. In fact it makes more sense that it didn't happen as described.

Mr Abbott said a Labor dirt unit was feeding information to people "left, right and centre". Well no doubt that is true.

He did not directly respond to repeated questions about whether there was a coalition dirt unit.

"The Australian public want our politicians to be on about building a better country and that's what I am on about," he said.

Earlier on Friday, Mr Abbott said he was guilty of childish and immature behaviour during his student days and that he did throw some punches on the rugby field.

Mr Abbott admitted he did refer to Ms Ramjan as a "chairthing" after she asked to be called chairperson, instead of chairman.

"A lot of childish and immature things happen on student councils and I think I probably was guilty of using that silly phrase," he told Nine Network.
I have no doubt a young Abbott would have been "guilty" of immaturity in his youth. Most people are "guilty" of that in their lives some even in Adulthood.

"Silly things happen on campus, alas." They certainly do.

Earlier this week Labor backbencher Deb O'Neill demanded Mr Abbott front parliament to explain his "misogynistic" behaviour when he was a student politician. Now here's a proper socialist wanker.

She said the Liberal leader was lying when he suggested nothing happened.

Mr Abbott's truthfulness was also questioned by the government in late August after he initially suggested he hadn't read BHP Billiton's media statement about its Olympic Dam project before changing his story the next day.

In mid-2010 the Liberal leader famously admitted that only his "scripted remarks" could be taken as the absolute gospel truth.

Mr Abbott on Friday was visiting a local IGA supermarket in suburban Canberra to continue his campaign against the carbon tax.

After helping stack some Flora margarine into the refrigerated section he moved onto what he said was "the best part of any shop - the meat section".

Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young later said Mr Abbott's answers on Friday morning were shifty.

"Frankly a lot of women think he is shifty," she told reporters in Canberra.
ROTFLMAO, as if this clown needs to be taken seriously. You know her politcis, you know what she's going to say. No surprises there except why would you bother.

"It doesn't make any sense to say you can't remember ... but 'oh, actually it didn't happen'.

"It sounds shifty - it probably is shifty."

It's hard to believe that people are naive enough to think that something like this would take 35 years to surface. It takes all kinds

Yes, yes... it's all a "labor dirt unit" when someone smears a lib... but whenever a labor leader is smeared, it's just random arseclowns (like mellie, IQs, et al) acting on their own behalf

Did you miss the 'so called' journalists and editor bylines stating "witness" when there has been nothing of the sort?

I have no doubt that this has been pushed to the Canberra press luvvies from the ALP but the shame is on the Canberra press luvvies for running with the meatless bone offered without even a skerrick of integrity to look into the claims.

Any journo that has run with this story should be ashamed of themselves. Claims of witnesses with no actual witnesses, no prior revelations despite many opportunities and the smear coming from an apparatchik and supported by her campaign manager as a 'witness' that didn't actually see anything.

I haven't seen a labor leader smeared in the MSM, only journos sacked for raising legitimate questions about the PMs actions in her mid thirties that resulted in the ripping off of mega bucks while the Canberra luvvies did their best to ignore a real story that has been deliberately glossed over

Gillard is no longer a practising solicitor and I assume Abbott has learnt to keep his fists/paws to himself. All clever crooks have legal representation and I doubt few solicitors turn them away. It is part and parcel of their job to act on behalf of the corrupt as well as the innocent.

Well it is from the Labor Party Dirt Unit boxy. No doubt about that.
There is such a thing. They've admitted it.
Gillard's past wasn't brought up by the Liberal Party it was brought up from within the Labor Party.
In fact Abbott and the Libs have largely steered clear of it. No doubt about that either.
