Showing our age - what has changed with time

Post by Super Nova » Sat May 19, 2012 6:04 pm

In a discussion this week, we marvelled at how much has changed in our lifetime. The progress that has been made and our memories of what we thought was fantastic at the time.

Technology:

I remember being amazed at a programmable calculator. I had a TI59 and programmes should be stored on a magnetic strip. Wow!.

The first large computer disc drive I encountered was a big as a washing machine and it stored... wait for it.... 50 Mb of data. Wow. I get more on my memory stick now.

Cars:

I remember understanding the engine of my car and doing a tune up my self... Wow.

Today I can just manage to find the hood release and struggle to find where to put the water to fill up the windscreen washer.

Gays:

Growing up I used to sing the "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree" and think nothing of "How Gay your life must be".

Today... I am saddened this song will probably be changed due to the change in the dominate meaning ofthe word.

Debt:

Everyobne had to save for years to buy a house or a car.

Today, you just go get a loan for anything and have it now without any sacrifice being made.

Eventually, you will get to the age when you are IGNORED. Totally. Your children won' t care what you say. They will have their own lives and only come around to collect the grandkids gifts or when they want "advice" or a loan.

Fortunately, what goes around comes around . You get paid back for ignoring your parents and considering them stupid. You are now in their shoes. Meanwhile it can be annoying when waiting in line anyplace. There is absolutely nothing one can do about getting older ...... except to know that those younger than you are will, eventually, suffer the same "age" problems.

Life is a bitch.... then you die. :smack

Can't buy a 'real' pie, sausage roll or vanilla slice anymore. Eclairs are disgusting now too

Even the so-called gourmet pies aren't worth spending any money on
