They weren't interested in it at that age - they've never been particularly interested in it.

If the parents were aware that this boy had the beginning of a drug problem then they are complete idiots for not supervising him more carefully. If they were going to do this deal - they should have waited until they got home first. I can't see the Balinese government being overly impressed by the parents' actions.

I see that the ABC is still reporting on this kid. He could get 2 years Gaol as a "child" in Malaysia. Geeze.

Oh, talking about drugs and trafficking them ..... anyone read the blurb on the new book about "Our Shapelle"? She was doing it for her Dad.

After a weekend in Amsterdam I still don't understand what the big issue is with POT. The US introduced prohibition on everything and had to drop it on Alchohol. They influence the whole world to follow similar policies. It is a failure.

In Amsterdam I saw 10's of thousands of people having a great time and not a single fight. Alchohol and dope smoked by those who wish to consume. No trouble. No crime related ...etc.

The issue for me is that young people who take mind altering drugs will be damaged as their brains are not fully developed. Also it is a key period in their lifes where they need to learn. Trying to learning anything in a drugged up brain is just going to happen. By the time they realised the impact they will have lost opportunities and will not reach their full potential. That is the sad bit.

However when you travel in some countries they have signs that say "do drug you die". So it is their rules.... don't risk it.

If you want to smoke dope. Stay at home in Aus. Do it where it has a severe punishment... tough shit.... next time go to Amsterdam.

While I don't agree with many countries position and dope... it is their country... while there... respect their rules or don't go.

On proceeds of crime. The family should not get any money.

No-one should benefit from a crime. Even if that crime creates public interest and an opportunity to make money. Anything paid should go to a charity if they will not offer interviews for free.

Now that the Indonesian government has got wind of the potential windfall from 60 minutes for the boy - it looks as though they are going to extend his term of imprisonment. His lawyer assumed he would be pardoned yesterday - but the hearing has been delayed for 2 weeks and it is now believed he will get a full 3 months. His parents should have done nothing to jeopardise his release - but sometimes greed is overpowering and perhaps they believe it's worth their son to do extra time for $300,000.

I don't understand why this is such a media circus anyway. Some kid got caught with pot, and has to face the consequences. So what?

And those fucking media scrums, taking him to and from court. WTF is the problem with these douchebags? The Indonesian cops should have broke out the batons, and come out swinging. Uncivilised kunts. And all the channels make a big deal about how bad it was... but they're all in there, getting the shots, contributing to the escalating problem

I agree.

If you are prepared to do the crime... wake up an be prepared to do the time.

When I like in Jakarta I got told by a local this.... "we love little white boys in our gaols, from behind they look like women"..... scary.... I tried very hard to not break any laws and did not get involved in the pot smoking that was around. People would just disappear for a week until located.

We had a guy who OD on something while their... his place of work got interested in his why his nehaviour always changed when he returned from the loo. The local staff found him slumped off his headf in the loo. My boss book a flight for him that day and he escorted him back to Aus just has the cops came hunting for him... One lucky SOB.

kunts.
There are a multitude of examples where people have profitted from a crime, not the least being the offender. How many books have been written by how many authors about one crime or another? Where does one draw the line concerning who may write those books for profit. Seconds cousins twice removed?

Why draw such and arbitrary line there? Where is the logic in doing so? I doubt there is any, but I look forward to hearing any possible explanation.
