Another very strong La Nina this summer

BuMet had been predicting a weak La Nina this summer.

Heard on the radio a little earlier the US weather service now says it will be a strong La Nina.

Expect more flooding on the East coast this summer.

Unusually cold ocean temperatures in the eastern equatorial Pacific, as compared to El Niño, which is characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific.

La Niña tends to bring nearly opposite effects of El Niño to the United States — wetter than normal conditions across the Pacific Northwest and dryer and warmer than normal conditions across much of the southern tier.

The impacts of El Niño and La Niña at these latitudes are most clearly seen in wintertime. In the continental USA, during El Niño years, temperatures in the winter are warmer than normal in the North Central States, and cooler than normal in the Southeast and the Southwest.

During a La Niña year, winter temperatures are warmer than normal in the Southeast and cooler than normal in the Northwest.

A warmer and drier than normal winter has been forecast for the southeastern US which is unfortunate for obvious reasons ... would imagine this forecast took La Nina into account.

What do they call the weird weather we're having on the mid east coast of Australia?

It was up to 28 degrees a few days ago and then the next day it dropped to 8 degrees and is continuing. We're rugged up as though it's winter.

Those scientists who are claiming that we're in a mini ice age at the moment are sounding more believable as time passes. Last Spring and Summer were very cool on the Central Coast of NSW. I can remember a handful of very hot days only and the rest of the time it was quite cool.

Seems that the protection of the environment would be a very politically conservative thing to do hence the term "conservation."
