Undergrad solves main astrophysics mystery

Undergraduate student Amelia Fraser-McKelvie, 22, was on a summer scholarship at Monash University when she managed to crack a mystery, that until now, has baffled scientists ...

"It's been published in one of the most prestigious journals in the world. So astronomers all over the world will be able to read this article."

He says the discovery could change the way telescopes are built.

"We will be using this as part of the science drivers for some telescopes that are on the design board, that are being built right at this moment in time," he said.

Wow! That is every science student’s dream, to be published! The ABC/smh coverage of this must give serious chuffage to Amelia as well.

Wonder how well she gets on with her supervisor(s). If there is nothing in that- well nice to see ethical supervisors not trying to claim all the credit.

Many have long thought the universe has a greater mass than they can actually see but have been unable to prove it is there. Ms Fraser-McKelvie did a targeted X-ray search for the matter and found it.

I'm impressed. Science is my favorite area of study, and specifically cosmology ..
