He's a builder by trade, and had the expertise to do much of it on the cheap, but he's even tossed it in as of late.. was a bit of a downer for him, i'll go have a look at Homes pictorial...his hippie-hut (lol, thats what I called it ) may even still be up for sale... if so....you can get a reasonable view of it from the front of the property... it's on acreage, but he more or less said now solar is in demand, the cost of PV cells has skyrocketed... there seems to be less and less competition... whereas back in the early 2000's every bastard was importing and flogging them.
That doesn't make it sound like my idea is a good option. Looks like there is a good course at CIT though, but from what you say mellie sounds like it is not worth doing. Also, i am a bit fearful of failing- i am okay with academic stuff but hands on technical stuff kind of scares me. And i thought it might be a business opportunity but have recently read there are heaps of people out there trying to do it and many are disreputable so I dunno about that either.
