I think it's all to do with value adding, they announce big plans, the property value goes up, then developement stops and put on the shelf for god knows how long, valuer general does it's job for rates increases, the land once picked for an airport now becomes available to be sliced up for housing developement, prices are through the roof but investors such as Coles and Woolworths say "Whoopieeeeeeeee!" buy up big to prevent others moving into the areas.
If you recall, Olympic Park at Homebush was swamp land, contaminated at the old brickpit, but it was all cleaned up and now the upper class live there.

So forget TGV's.

Yes because TGVs can't go on our rail lines, so we'd have to build a new one.

Here's a novel idea mellie....do some research and learn some facts.
The super fast train was thought of some years ago, between Syd, Canb, Albury, Melb,
it is still being surveyed, $25mil later they may let us know if it is a go.

In all, our population is expanding and our infrastructure is inadequate.

Solution?

Stop expanding and give our infrastructure time to catch up with the sprawl.

Nooo, this would require common sense, something these urban planners lack when eying off prospective investments for their own fat portfolios.

I don't know much about Camden airport but what I do know is that Sydney needs an airport in the western suburbs where the majority of Sydneys population reside.
to me Bankstown stands out as the obvious, though I left Sydney about 17 years ago and from what I gather the far south west, around Camden, is the biggest growth area. But the federal and state govs are always too afraid to make a decision as they are both always looking at the fallout from their decisions.

As the NBN will make decentralisation easy and feasible regional rail networks will need to be upgraded and with it the interstate. Forget VFR tho—and buy some OneSteel shares!

I think New Castle was another site they toyed with, not sure if they still are....

They toy with lots of ideas, what Sydney needs is another airport, it would not surprise me if we don't see one in our lifetimes.
Sydney's west is the most obvious, but all the govs are too afraid of making the decision.
A lot of people fly to Sydney for business meetings, a lot of those meetings are in the west, so its obvious this is where they should be doing it.But after they choose an airport they then need to have the transport to move people out of that airport, Bankstown airport would need a train link to either the East Hills line or the Bankstown line, other than that, it could be up and running tomorrow.

Lets build it right next door to Lathams house, out Camden way.... :D ...No...it's too built up there now also, is more or less like Richmond/Windsor.

....So the only place left as I see it is Badgerys Creek.

I think a Badgerys Creek airport would fit nice'n'snug next to a wet'n'wild at nearby prospect.

Would certainly boost the crappy area it is at present, (tourism wise) creating jobs and industry, this and give it a make-over it so desperately needs.

It is the more obvious area to put an aorport, but still now as it was when first thought of,
Tree huggers, animal libs, noise pollution and so on.
Bankstown I don't think so, it has the main artery road and river at one end, they won't consider building over or trenching to put the road under.
