The mining tax may be the one issue that labor will have to take to an election because they will not get their legislation through unless they majorly capitulate to the greens but they have already done the deal with the miners that is not likely to be modified considering the Rudd/labor/Gillard ballsup
If Labor take the issue to an election, then they would have the backing of the major miners.
It would be the only ally they have.
Labor are being fucked by the greens and Bob is loving every minute of the arse fucking he is giving them.

LABOR has declared its new $7.4 billion mining tax non-negotiable and blasted the Greens, who oppose the tax, as basketweavers intent on killing the "golden goose" of mining by taxing it out of existence.
But Greens leader Bob Brown has hardened his opposition to the tax plans, saying he is no "rubber stamp" and threatening to produce a private member's bill to sink the government's proposal to cap state royalties on mining.
The clash came as West Australian Premier Colin Barnett continued to reject the new mineral resources rent tax, hotly disputing Wayne Swan's claims that it would benefit his resource-rich state.
It also continues Labor's attempt to distance itself from the Greens amid opposition claims that it governs in a virtual coalition with the minor party.
In recent weeks Julia Gillard has described the Greens as extremists, recommitted to opposing their policies that support euthanasia and same-sex marriage and vowed to pursue hard economic reform in the spirit of the Hawke and Keating governments.
