Its in every way comparable because both initiated with failure of cooling systems.
And as I've pointed out previously, every reactor employing (external) water coolant towers is prone to melt-down.

Another complication for Fukashima is the cranes used for fuel rod extractions were wiped out by the tsunami.

When ANSTO crew dropped and shattered an old fuel rod on the floor within the containment building at Lucas Heights in early 2000, it took them 6 months to build a robot to clean it up. I just hope Japanese mechatronic engineers are quicker than ANSTO's crew.

They may differ in some respects .. but this morning's news is saying those TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PRESENT NUCLEAR CRISIS ON THE FRONT LINE ARE ON SUICIDE MISSIONS.

Its completely valid. 3 mile Is didn't breach the containment structure, Chernobyl did. At Fukushima, poor reactor design in GE's Mark 1 led to hydrogen build-up causing explosions blowing the containment structure off. Actually its potentially far worse than Chernobyl for 2 main reasons. 1st there's more reactors to contend with, and 2nd, aside from melting cores, the spent fuel pools also risk boiling dry and going pyro.

Don't kid yourself, this is the worst nuclear disaster to date.

BTW, U$A has 23 GE Mark 1 reactors in 16 locations.

No I'm telling you both were the result of the same problem (coolant system failure) and that Fukushima is potentially far worse than Chernobyl because its bigger .... so the analogy would be Chernobyl is the straight 4 and Fukushima is the V8.

Anyway, in the event that a, or a number of Fukushima reactors cores melt, or spent fuel pools ignite, the ultimate problem is the same ... widespread Cesium 137 contamination.
