Re: Is there a role for nuclear energy?
I am getting emails from American friends depicting "the USA West Coast is facing a disaster" due to the nuclear "problems" in Japan. Complete with maps and wind direction diagrams and all.boxy wrote:Wave - 10,000 to 20,000 dead
Nukes - 9 injured
Is that about right?
This is the biggests disaster you could ever expect to put a nuclear powerplant through. It is a worst case senario... you fearmongerers are obviously hoping like hell that it turns out a whole hell of a lot worse than Chernobyl, with all the whine that has been brought already. What did Chernobyl kill? 100?
Pales into insignificance, really.

I have a friend in Tokyo. He and his family are OK thankfully.

The Japanese are one of the most organised of peoples. They live in an earthquake prone country and are ever-ready from childhood. This earthquake has been a real shock to even the old people as it is the biggest, ever.skippy. wrote:That's good nef, my best mates son and his ex wife are living in Japan, she an English teacher there. My Japanese friend is a long time epal, he is Japanese. He works as a Translator (Japanese to English) for an Engineering Company (technical stuff) and often emails me to ask for help when he is stuck with a grammatical problem. He sends a sentence that he has translated but doesn't sound quite "right" and I change a couple of things.
I read that there are about 11,000 Aussies living and working in Japan. This doesn't surprise me. It's a beautiful country.
Re: Is there a role for nuclear energy?
Yes, hope all is well,
should the winds move with air currents then yes, U.S.A will cop the shit,
but on the other hand, Japan areas are known for typhoon winds are they not?
if there is a meltdown and winds swirl around Japan and the islands, say goodbye to Japan.
Very unfortunate and scarey.

It sounds like a lot of countries could be in the shit if typhoon winds occur.Viking King. wrote:Yes, hope all is well,

Re: Is there a role for nuclear energy?
Read the real Japanese Times Newspaper http://www.japantimes.co.jp/ it is in English but (obviously) written for the English-speaking Japanese population. There isn't a "major" problem in the US of A at the moment so they are concentrating on somebody else's "disaster" and even then they have the bloody hide to make is sound like the US of A is at risk. Talk about Big Shots.Viking King. wrote:Yes, hope all is well,

USA has Hurricanes
Australia has Cyclones
Japan has Typhoons
Same thing.

Tsunami is a Japanese name for a Tidal Wave (if I remember correctly) it has now become something that Yank Weather people talk about when there is a bit of a gust/wind near Florida. Geeze.

Re: Is there a role for nuclear energy?
Geeze, all I was saying is that should the worst come about and there is the west to east winds that would normally flow across the ocean then of course the USA would be effected, to what degree? no one knows, but there is also the possibility of Typhoon/cyclone/twister/hurricane or whatever winds occuring in the Japan islands at the same time of a meltdown should that occur.Neferti~ wrote:Read the real Japanese Times Newspaper http://www.japantimes.co.jp/ it is in English but (obviously) written for the English-speaking Japanese population.
