The point of these "murders" has nothing to do with butcher shops - it has to do with family members who are deceitful or malicious. Unless you were actually starving - it shouldn't be necessary to kill a pet. There's a big difference between Snorkels and Baba and the beast that is bred for food. This is the only problem I've ever had with living on a farm or station is that those who have "hardened TFU" have no idea of human attachment to an animal and the trauma and resentment the unnecessary slaughter of a pet can bring.
