Internet and associated uses are only high in Aust because Telstra don't care about average Mr and Mrs Joe, as for my personal bill in this area with Telstra I was paying in excess of $300 each month, it would also cost me $299.00 each time I moved house,

that is inconsistent with your assersion that we were behind the 3rd world.

telstra are very expensive, no doubt about it. certainly much more expensive to Europe and US however that have a high population density compared to Australia. So it will be more expensive. Also don't forget Telstra have to try and deliver uniform charging and can not offer price that reflect the real costs. In that i mean... dirt cheap in the cities and outragously expensive in the country. They have to spread their costs.

I
cut them off and went satellite with an all Australian setup, now paying $69.00 per month for broadband and land line use, cost me nothing to have it connected
Great. If more people did this they would get the message sooner. Competition is the only thing they will respond to.
, but because the land line is still owned by telstra and I live a few mins out of town I am unable to get caller ID, not available in this area,
That is an exchange issue. When your local exchange is upgraded you will get the latest facilities. Caller Id is not that importantant I would have thought. On a land line it is only good for call screening. "I am not going to asnwer that call because I know who is calling". use your mobile if you want that. i am assuming that Caller Id is the same as CLI, call line indentiifer.
In some suburbs around the country telstra seem to have the monopoly and won't allow other providers set up in certain areas, they charge high fees because they always have and always will..
Yep. Bastards. All monopoly telcos around the world have behaved this way. The solution is competition and gov regs are needed to enable this to happen. The trouble is the competitors don't see any return in the country. All the people are in the cities so they are relucant to invest. so they end up being the only choice in some areas. If I have no competition and you have to come to me i will charge you as much as I can. That the nature of business.
So far as this gov't, do you really suggest we all stay with the libs/coalition and let them pay themselves 10% each payrise and ignore the working Australian who actually pay their wages.
No. I thought we were talking about IT and computers and being lower than the third world. Don't fool yourself into thinking that they are our servants because we pay their wage. They are politicians who have chosen a career and want to be well paid like everyone else. If I could vote for or nominate my own salary I can tell you it would be more than I get today. Wouldn't yours be?

Supa Nova, thank you, you seem very much the wise person, unlike the other couple or 3 that have constant use of vlgarity and attacks.

As I mentioned, I now use satellite for the internet and the same company for landline, about 12 months now and never one bit of trouble to complain about, where as with the other providers and inparticular Telstra, they all call you and offer the moon and stars to get you back as a valued customer, but as soon as you go back it all falls apart, you have a complaint and where are you connected? an international call centre and the person you get you cannot understand, the company relies on this so that you hang up and stop trying to annoy them
Exchange issues; that may be so but populations do grow in towns and inland country cities, the county city has all the services but when one is 5 mins out of town as we are, we don't get the same, Telstra for one announces 5 bil profit, a profit is what is left after all the bills are paid, money in the pocket, they ignore the country areas as do all other major service as well as gov't (both sides) we've had Nationals out here since day dot and there has not been any growth so far as industry to help with employment, one particular company held the council to ransom so to speak and prevented other industry of similar size to enter the country city, yes, there is a mine site near by and that tend to push up rents, therefore putting people out of home.
Anyhoo, your a sound person for conversation, thanks again.

Why do you bother?
You don't know how to have conversation, I bet your life is in ruins because of the way you go on,
if you have wife and children I'd bet you beat them because they don't think the same way you do,
I feel sorry for you, you must feel real ugly on the inside.
Admit it, you act the way you do because you have no life to live.

Nationals out here since day dot and there has not been any growth so far as industry to help with employment, one particular company held the council to ransom so to speak and prevented other industry of similar size to enter the country city, yes, there is a mine site near by and that tend to push up rents, therefore putting people out of home.

"there is a mine site near by and that tend to push up rents, therefore putting people out of home"

You can not have it both ways. You have a mine site, that is industry, bringing people to your small town, htey need houses so that will increase demand... there is limited supply so the rents will go up. Simple supply and demand ecconomics.

Imagine if more industry come your way... the rents will go higher until someone invests to make more housing. they will only invest becuse they can get a high rent. The cost of ecconomic success would have short term problems for those local that are not on the new ecconomy in the area.

Same old story everywhere that goes through change. Those that can not adapt complain. Those that do prosper.

Find a way to take advantage of any change coming your way is the best thing you can do.
