Threat to PBS

Post by Jovial Monk » Thu Aug 19, 2010 6:25 pm

from PB:
I mised Jules last night, saw some of Abbott. I did read a lot of the PB comments in my phone. (Now therte is a technonlgy to confuse the unhinged obe.) It seems Julia did well.

I read some comments about the PBS being cut by H Abbott and his gang. That is scary and this should be broadcast widely. My OAP Mum is on a cartload of drugs for her health problems and she couldn’t afford them if she had to pay full price. And what is the point of promising money for mental health if people cannot afford the very expensive drugs and therapies they need?

Another site I on which I post has many disadvantaged people from the USA on it. The stories of trying to cope with medical costs are horrific. One woman scraped together $800 to buy her adult son’s monthly script for psychiatric drugs. He didn’t qualify for subsidised drugs for 2 months for some reason and she knew he had to have them.

The big drug companies, particularly in the USA, absolutely hate our PBS system and want it dismantled. They gained a bit of ground when Howard gave them a right of appeal under a Free Trade Agreement. http://cgkd.anu.edu.au/menus/PDFs/Economist.pdf

This is an evil weevil in the Coalition flour.

He took a hatchet to medicare under howard. No surprise about him eying pbs.

It's a bad move though. PBS is buying power. When you buy in the sort of bulk PBS does you can name your price. It's the reason why drugs cost half as much in canada and Australia as they do in the USA.

It is just plain sense, bargain as an entire market and you will have much more power over price than if you bargain as individuals with fragmented insurance plans.

I think the saddest thing about this election is how poorly Labor has sold their message.

Abbot has cleaned their clocks in this campaign, and I do not say that as one who wants him to win.
