Music - Live or recorded version?

Do you prefer one version? Live or recorded?

For me it is usually the recorded version.
There are some exceptions. Often they are very mixed anyway.


Apart from Classic music - that is better live as it is unamplified.

Live music can be great but it has to be mixed down
properly in a studio before release.

It's brilliant when you are at the concert.

But you just can't capture the ambiance with even the best recording devices available.

So if I'm listening to it other than in the concert, I prefer the mixed.

Example.
I went to the Royal Tattoo in Edinburgh a couple of years ago.
From the onset, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end.
It was an experience I will never forget, absolutely brilliantly amazing.
I bought the DVD of the tattoo and played it at home.
It was good, but was missing soo much that i never watched it again.

Live music need to be experienced.
But if you can't get live, sometimes a well recorded, well mixed substitute can suffice...........sometimes not.

The other one i saw locally was Roy Orbison.......No personality...sang OK but boring.

Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Elvis Costello,
Midnight Oil,
Daryl Braithwaite.

They were all great - top acts - I really got my money's worth.

BTW - I think Elvis Costello was the most talented out of all of them.
He could sing - he could play guitar etc - all exceptionally well.
