I don't see anyone "picking on the poor" but I thought you were having a go at Mort 8-)
I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with me, even when they are out of line. Unlike some who are at another forum we know, I will never cry to the Mods regardless of how others post. If everyone agreed I would lose interest and move on.

Making excuses for people who might be using borrowed vehicles or shopping for the owner of the card is grasping at straws. These parasites know enough to do the math, how much more will they make working then just sitting on their dead asses waiting for their monthly deposit. The people that abuse the system usually never own anything and vote for every Democrat they can, even after they die!

And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

I admit I don't know how your cards and stamps work over there. Can anyone use them on behalf of others?

Oh and Brian I have no idea what "jealousy" you are speaking of and have no desire to either. Jealousy of the poor? What an odd thing to say. Weird weird weird.

I guess when you have nothing else? *shrug

If you want an understanding of what I have said, Black Orchid look to your former leader, John Winston Howard. It was a quote from him. :roll

Same context as your Tory ex-leader used it.

[excerpts that belong better here]

As a woman who had an 8th grade education, 2 children before I had turned 19, was single and on the pension I will show as little compassion as BO et al showed towards the poor. I may not be poor now, but I lived with that stigma for a long time... the judgements and belittlements by people just like BO...

But wait, there's more... I also survived domestic violence and every day I survive chronic pain from my back that I broke horse riding. Still, I managed to turn that 8th grade education into a Masters... I put my children through university without any help from their dead beat dad...

I know of one woman here who shops at a community food source place. She wears designer clothes and drives a brand new BMW. She's married to a Barrister and is apparently going through a divorce.

She goes to the gym in the mornings so cannot get to the 'co-op' until around 12.00 pm whereas the poor people queue up before 8.00 am. So what do the volunteers do? They grab the best of everything early for her so she doesn't have to queue up with the plebs and then she rocks in, bags it all up and zooms off.

There could be extenuating circumstances, who knows? But at face value it appears as it is and the 'poor' who have been lining up for hours are really pissed off to the extent they almost riot.

Tex's story reminded me of this.

IMO she is rorting the system and the volunteers hold the same view but they have to do what the 'boss' tells them to do.
Sounds like jealously BO.

Having worked for Centrelink for 14 years I know the system inside out from all perspectives... from customer service to exe management.

I can tell you that the woman wears her designer outfits because that's all she has... having been married to a barrister.
She goes to the gym using up what remains of her membership... perhaps. Most likely the BMW is leased and attached to the husband's business. I have no idea why she gets special treatment at the charity... perhaps she knows someone there... what I do know is that nothing is rarely as it seems.

As an aside, I went to the gym for all the while I was on the pension. My mother paid for it year after year as part of my birthday gifts.

Jealousy? I would turn that around and say that you are the one sounding jealous and even though I applaud you for pulling yourself up and making a good life for yourself and your children you seem bitter towards all men. Men are treated very badly nowadays, much more so than back in your day, and because of bitter attitudes mainly from women who have felt hardly done by. Having 2 children by the age of 19 must be extremely hard but is not the sole fault of any male.

A friend of mine volunteers at this co-op I spoke of to help the poor and she is the one who told me the story. Apparently all of the volunteers feel this woman is scamming the system. So make all the presumptions and judgments you want I prefer to believe those in the thick of it. Working for Centrelink customer service doesn't give you a crystal ball that sees into people's lives. If it did we wouldn't have to have a special body trying to run down welfare fraud.

You could be right about her using up her gym membership but if that were the case wouldn't she put food and essentials first before the gym? Whether her membership is running out or not has absolutely nothing to do with it. She could go to the co-op and get her food and freebies BEFORE the gym, take them home and THEN go to the gym if food and essentials were her priority. I don't give a shit how she came by her gym membership the point I made is that she puts that BEFORE food etc whilst others have to stand in line.

That's not "picking on the poor" so take a chill pill and have a lie down.

The real questions are why does the person, who ever that person is, give her special treatment? Why haven't the volunteers lodged a complaint with the co-ordinator who supervises the volunteers, or to the church authority in question... that pays the supervisor. I suspect that the church is unaware of this situation.

Whatever the case, you cannot blame the person who receives the food aid, because she has zero authority... and yet you have blamed her because she doesn't look poor enough, because she drives a BMW, because of numerous reasons over which she has no control!

So, yeah, you are not merely picking on the poor... you are making this women out be the villain.

I wonder what your response would be if she were a straight white male? Scathing no doubt. :nah
