The Australian Army's approximately $10-15 billion project to replace the ageing M113 APCs, with an Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) and APC. Up until few days ago, there were 4 contenders:

Rheinmetall's Lynx KF41
BAE Systems CV90 MkIV IFV
Hanwha Defense Systems AS21 Redback
General Dynamics Land Systems AJAX

As of day before yesterday there are now two after the Australian Army downselected to the Lynx KF41 and AS21 Redback.

More good news for you Brian!

This Youtube site claims that the Eurocraptor Tiger is one of the 10 worst French aircraft ever invented.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwlrMVYZ_EE

It also said that in 2013 prices, the Tiger cost $49 million dollars each, while the Apache was $14 million dollars cheaper. Nice one DOD. Another DOD procurement fiasco. Knowing hos the French have no qualms about greasing palms to get military equipment sales, if I was connected to the DOD as you seem to be, I had better start checking whether any of those procurement people have come into some unexplained wealth.

Dear Brian,
I reckon they'll still be using the M113
25 years from now.

No prizes for guessing which vehicle those DOD procurement dunces will pick? The top one looks like a computer model of unknown performance and unknown price. While the bottom one is obviously in production with a known performance and a known price. The idiots will pick the top one for sure, because they always pick the drawing office project over the one which is real. And when the price doubles and the damned thing is proven to be no good, you will find that the public servants who approved the over priced piece of junk will have retired to their beachfront homes, to complain about global warming.

I hope they are god though, knowing how bankrupt the Australian army is, it will have to do us for another 60 years.

When I first started reading the exchanges...I thought...interesting....
Now it appears that its just a pissing contest between two blokes with a military history....
The posts are not worth reading to be honest....
Like BR says... this is a very old and ongoing debate...I first encountered it when I joined Debate and Relate, a forum run by a person called Boondocker… not sure what happened to him... Do you still speak to him Nicole?

Anyhoo, the custom is to let those two do there thing with minimal interference.

The Rheinmetall's Lynx KF41 is a new design which has been produced and submitted for several equipment programmes here, in Australian, in the Czech Republic, Qatar and in the US. It exists and runs quite well by all accounts, Bogan. This programme is intended, along with the Boxer APC to replace the M113.

Given the DOD's uncanny ability to purchase weapons which are too expensive and which don't work as advertised, I have confidence in their abilities to stuff everything up again and get the worst deal possible.

By the way. I submitted a link to a YouTube site which says that the Eurocraptor Tiger was one of the worst ten aircraft the French ever built. And it cost $14 million dollars more than the Apache. What is your opinion on that fiasco? Mine is that the people who were responsible for that should have been put up against a wall and shot.

I already have stated my opinion on the aircraft, Bogan.

Of course you don't want to reply, Brian. It is yet another glaring example of either the corruption or total incompetence of our DOD procurement office.

I'll bet even you were shocked that these crap helicopters each cost $14 million dollars more than the magnificent Apache. And even you are at a loss to explain how that could possibly be.
