You wouldn't think that the Chinese could
make PCBs to mil spec standards.
What makes you suspect that, Bobby? The Chinese can make anything, to any specification. How do you think they have come to dominate the electronics scene?

I'm surprised - that's all.

They steal other people's work and do an inferior job even when they do.

You get what you pay for
In China as much as Australia.

We have been sourcing PCAs in Australia and NZ for the last 12 months.
We have found only two so far that can meet our requirements.
Our 6 layered PCBs with accompanying surface mount components, capable of performing in a very demanding industry, means that we are having considerable difficulties in sourcing a competent supplier.

There are any number of suppliers of basic and even more complex PCAs, but not at our level.
Overseas, is a similar problem, and we need to do some country hopping to find what we need.

China was on our list, but they were actually quite expensive.
They had both the technology and capability, but because we need only small numbers of our equipment, it was far too expensive.

Its' strange how the Yanks would get their
possible future enemies to make parts for them.

And your experience in this field, is what, exactly, Black Orchid?

Personally, I've found that if properly supervised and held to standards and not allowed to cut corners, Chinese work is as good as any other nationality's.

The funniest part of all is that all an aggressor would have to do is stop the fuel tankers coming to Australia and Australia would be dry in about a month and the aggressors could just walk in amongst the abandoned vehicles with empty fuel tanks everywhere on the street.

No BO's right on the money here. Their products and produce is junk/crap.
Part of that is due to poor/low quality ingredients/components to save costs, and the other main factor is communism has dumbed down the Chinese population.

Left to their own devices the Chinese are quite clever.
They invented gun powder (black powder) so have been playing with chemistry since way back.
They had a 500 year monopoly on silk because they kept the silk worm a trade (and national) secret.

I do a bit of gold prospecting in an area full of fine/powder gold (dust).
From what I've found at old mine sites I've worked out the Euros used lemon juice (thus the lemon trees at mine sites) to oxidise lead to get cyanide which is mixed with potassium from urine to extract gold with potassium cyanide.
The Chinese were processing cycad nuts/seeds to obtain cyanide ... pretty smart IMO.

But communism destroys the incentive to invent and create, so the intelligent don't bother because the govt takes/confiscates/appropriates the idea for themselves. The result is they cannot innovate so have become dependant on intellectual property theft. Their modern economy is built on theft.

My personal experience of mainland Chinese is they will put in long hours but will not exert themselves.
You'll never see a Chinaman sweat at work.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Tell me, do you use a smart phone, Yogi?

Do you use a laptop computer? How about a desktop PC?

All three devices are produced almost exclusively nowadays in the PRC.

When you have actual experience of Chinese manufacture, get back to us, OK? I have worked in Engineering and IT sectors over the decades. There is a clear difference between the two.

As much as it irks me to agree with bwyannnnnn

He is on the money here.

China can and does produce high quality products.
They are also the leaders in some technology fields.

But they also have the market cornered with cheap crap, as you say.

They build for the market.
Some people are happy to buy crap, some are far more particular.

Look at clothing
There are quality clothing stores
And there are cheap clothing stores.
Both are selling goods.

There are cheap cameras, and there are expensive cameras.

There are cheap cars and there are crappy cars.

There will always be a market for cheap.

But don't disregard a countries ability based on the cheap stuff you buy.
