Living in a small town

I wouldn't call a town with 500,000 residents exactly small.

No, 500,000 seems a bit large and 2000 seems far too small.

I am more thinking 50,000 --> 250,000.

At what size do various facilities and utilities start appearing?
A library, Woolworths, train service, hospital, Bridge club, public swimming pool with 50M pool

yes, we have been seriously planning our retirement for about 4 years.
Wish I had started putting extra into my super earlier.

We are in no rush, considering i) Staying where we are.
ii) Buying a place in the Sunshine or Gold Coasts.

I still like working, so may as well continue to do that.

I took early retirement and have never regretted it. Provided you own your house and depending on what, exactly, you want to do in retirement (travel overseas or whatever), you don't really need a lot of money. However, don't leave retirement too long, you aren't getting any younger and want to enjoy the freedom!

I recall my Mother saying to me when I was talking about retirement ..."What are you going to do with the next 20 years of your life?" ENJOY it was my reply .... and I have. Then, I am not one who has to "keep busy" ... so retirement to me has been one Big Holiday and I am quite happy to sit and "stare at the TV" .... think about what YOU will do when you no longer have work to go to daily .... will you get bored at home? Bridge Clubs are full of Old Retired Folk but even that becomes "old" after a while. Oh, just buy a place with a swimming pool ...

I have a relative who lives in The Vistas on the Gold Coast .... it's a gated community. Check it out.

Good thoughts, some of them I have heard from other people so there must be a lot of truth to them.
I am one of those who likes being busy, so bridge suits me as one of my interests
One of my retired friends is happy sitting around.
Others are like me and are busy beetles.

Depends if you need regular medical treatment.

If you are still able to drive competently.

If you are able to look after yourself and your House/Land

I like the vibe of a smaller town - Slow Down and Relax.

Depends on what you call a small town - 100 people- 1000 people - 10,000 people ?

You could always move “NEAR” a larger Town - say 30 to 40 thousand people.

They would have major retailers, kmart, target, M, Kentucky, Harvey Norman, Bunnings etc

Hospitals (cancer unit?)

Schools

A Corrupt Council (Greens/Labor)

Smal cities always have Satilite Towns around them - sometimes 50 to 100 people - sometimes 1000 people or more

10 - 15 minute drive
