ahh talking its better than chucking money now you reckon....
The last war the UN prevented was in 1999 - between Australia and Indonesia over East Timor, Valkie.
what war with Indonesia???
as far as I remember we did send troops. to East Timor....and put a stop to the thugs killing them at will which your lot turned a blind eye too..
The last war that the UN stopped was in the Balkans, between the Serbs and the other national groups (Croats, Bosnians, Kosovars).
seriously STOPPED>.
Croatia has told the top UN court that Serbian leaders are "in denial" over a policy of genocide it says was carried out on its territory in the 1990s.
Zagreb wants the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague to rule that Serbia committed genocide in the city of Vukovar and elsewhere in 1991.
Vukovar was devastated in the 1991-95 war when it was occupied by Serbs.
Serbia has filed a counter claim over the expulsion of 230,000 Serbs from Croatia in 1995.
An estimated 20,000 people died during Croatia's four-year war of independence, during the breakup of Yugoslavia. Several hundred Vukovar citizens were murdered by the Yugoslav army and Serb paramilitaries in 1991.
Some 2,000 people were murdered four years later, during and after the Croatian counter-offensive, entitled Operation Storm.
Serbia's countersuit will be heard by the ICJ next week.

My lot didn't "turn a blind eye" to anything, Cods. The ALP actually tried to stop the Indonesian Army from killing East Timorese people by trying to train them in proper COIN warfare methods. The TNI however just preferred to kill people.cods wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 5:38 pmahh talking its better than chucking money now you reckon....

Australia learnt it's lesson in 1960 in the West New Guinea affair - you don't talk big if you don't have the forces to back your rhetoric. Since then, we have been slowly building up our forces in case of a showdown with anybody in our region. In 1975 that nearly came but just as in 1960, the US backed the other side, not us. In 1999, the US decided to remain neutral (and furtively backed us). The TNI backed down when faced by real force. It knew it could not win against a first world military force like Australia so withdrew from East Timor instead.
The real ones, Cods. The UN is powerless to actively stop an ongoing war. It can only stop a war if and when the participants are willing to stop. The Israelis and the Egyptians stopped fighting in 1973 because they couldn't sustain hostilities any longer. The Israelis and the Syrians stopped fighting in 1973 'cause they couldn't sustain hostilities any longer. They didn't stop because a UN force intervened. In the Balkans, the Serbs and the Croats and Bosnians and Kosovars all stopped fighting 'cause they weren't able to sustain hostilities any longer. The UN in each case then intervened and the wars stopped.seriously STOPPED.The last war that the UN stopped was in the Balkans, between the Serbs and the other national groups (Croats, Bosnians, Kosovars).

A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.

Re: Can Someone tell the UN to
Australia possesses no "Nukes".
Australia pays for the help that Indonesia furnishes in the matter of people smuggling and Islamist Terrorism.
Bali furnishes an outlet for Australia's population to experience a different culture (two actually) and provides the Indonesians a way to earn Australian dollars.

The real ones, Cods. The UN is powerless to actively stop an ongoing war. It can only stop a war if and when the participants are willing to stop.
I COULD STOP A WAR IF THE PARTICIPANTS ARE WILLING TO STOP...... WHAT A STOOOPID THING TO CLAIM..
The UN in each case then intervened and the wars stopped.
The former Yugoslavia was a Socialist state created after German occupation in World War II and a bitter civil war. A federation of six republics, it brought together Serbs, Croats, Bosnian Muslims, Albanians, Slovenes and others under a comparatively relaxed communist regime. Tensions between these groups were successfully suppressed under the leadership of President Tito
After Tito's death in 1980, tensions re-emerged. Calls for more autonomy within Yugoslavia by nationalist groups led in 1991 to declarations of independence in Croatia and Slovenia. The Serb-dominated Yugoslav army lashed out, first in Slovenia and then in Croatia. Thousands were killed in the latter conflict which was paused in 1992 under a UN-monitored ceasefire.
Bosnia, with a complex mix of Serbs, Muslims and Croats, was next to try for independence. Bosnia's Serbs, backed by Serbs elsewhere in Yugoslavia, resisted. Under leader Radovan Karadzic, they threatened bloodshed if Bosnia's Muslims and Croats - who outnumbered Serbs - broke away. Despite European blessing for the move in a 1992 referendum, war came fast.
Yugoslav army units, withdrawn from Croatia and renamed the Bosnian Serb Army, carved out a huge swathe of Serb-dominated territory. Over a million Bosnian Muslims and Croats were driven from their homes in ethnic cleansing. Serbs suffered too. The capital Sarajevo was besieged and shelled. UN peacekeepers, brought in to quell the fighting, were seen as ineffective.
nternational peace efforts to stop the war failed, the UN was humiliated and over 100,000 died. The war ended in 1995 after Nato bombed the Bosnian Serbs and Muslim and Croat armies made gains on the ground. A US-brokered peace divided Bosnia into two self-governing entities, a Bosnian Serb republic and a Muslim-Croat federation lightly bound by a central government.
In August 1995, the Croatian army stormed areas in Croatia under Serb control prompting thousands to flee. Soon Croatia and Bosnia were fully independent. Slovenia and Macedonia had already gone. Montenegro left later. In 1999, Kosovo's ethnic Albanians fought Serbs in another brutal war to gain independence. Serbia ended the conflict beaten, battered and alone.
