Density of the canopy does not make a measurement of the density of the bush itself.

I can never understand why they do not make it compulsory to carry PLB no matter how long they plan to be out there..
its a navigational nightmare .. and the amount of time and money that is spent on searching for these people is enormous.
make it compulsory... rock fisherman have to wear safety lifejackets when fishing......whats the difference????....
people go bush walking in the snow here flek....and never return......

Re: Australia is a dangerous country
There are multiple rescue organisations all over Australia, including police, army and volunteers.
While all beacons are monitored by one central location, response is carried out by one or more of the many many local organisations.
For example
Between Sydney and Newcastle, there are no less than 6 marine rescue bases, most manned 24 hours a day. Most with more than two vessels.
Additionally there are several maritime location with 3 to 5 vessels
Police have a water police capability of several boats.
If necessary there is the navy and several helicopters.
If you have a beacon EPIRB, and you set it off, you have a very very good chance of survival.
Inland we have the SES , police, Fire brigade, volunteer rescue groups and if necessary the army and air force.
Again, set off a PLB and your chances are very very good for rescue, no matter where you are.
EPIRBS and PLBS don't need towers or phone communication
It all goes direct to satellites.
Most have the capability to remain active for 24 to 48 hours, plenty of time to triangulate your position within a few metres.
Again, finding someone in the ocean even in good weather is very very hard
Anyone not using an EPIRB is an idiot in the extreem
I have a dream

The Thylacine and the Sarcophilus harrisii once existed on the mainland. However, competition with Dingos forced them to retreat to Tasmania where there were no Dingos. They were there still when the European colonists arrived. Australia has many unique and specific animals. It is the last refuge of the monotremes - the Echidna and the Platypus. It is the last refuge of the Marsupial - most mammals are marsupial (pouch) bearing. It has Kangaroos, Wombats, Koala, Wallaby and Bilby. It has unique birds, Parrots, Galahs, Budgerigars, Wedgetail Eagles, etc. It has unique sea animals - Octupi, Sharks, Snakes, Shellfish. It has the largest reptiles - Salt and Freshwater Crocodiles, Goannas, Perenties, etc. It has unique insects - Red Back Spiders, Funnelweb Spiders, Trapdoor Spiders to name a few of the more deadly ones. The list of unique and specific species goes on and on. Bulgaria doesn't seem to have anything unique to it, does it?FLEKTARN wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 11:44 pmbrian ross wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 11:14 pmFilmed in Tasmania. Tasmania is a separate island to the mainland. It has some dense forest in the Western side of the island (which is about half the size as Bulgaria BTW). It's climate is cooler and moister compared to the rest of the Australian mainland. The Tasmanian Tiger has been (officially) extinct since 1936 when the last one died in captivity.
I read about the Tiger after I saw the movie. I thought that was Australia (mainland). Does it have some other specific animals like the Kiwi for NZ?

I've long had an interest in wildlife ever since I served in the Army in fact. My daughter is presently studying Wildlife Ecology at University. I am a bit of a polymath, I suppose. Jealousy doesn't really become you, you realise? Don't worry, I'm sure you can figure it out if you keep baning those rocks togehter...
