So the forests are around the edges, near sea?

Nice. You can send all the illegal migrants there in the Outback? They'll be independent.

Filmed in Tasmania. Tasmania is a separate island to the mainland. It has some dense forest in the Western side of the island (which is about half the size as Bulgaria BTW). It's climate is cooler and moister compared to the rest of the Australian mainland. The Tasmanian Tiger has been (officially) extinct since 1936 when the last one died in captivity.

I read about the Tiger after I saw the movie. I thought that was Australia (mainland). Does it have some other specific animals like the Kiwi for NZ?

A hiking PLB sounds a good idea if going far afield.

As I said, there are not many real dense forests in Australia.
Tasmania woukd be one place where you will find patches of very dense forest.
But through millions of years of fires and desert environment, Australia is not very densely covered.
I have walked and travelled extensively around Australia and can assure you I have never been in a position where I could not see the sky.
Additionally, where these people died was desert, no trees to speak of, just bush.
A PLB woukd have easily saved their lives, guaranteed.
Response is amazingly fast when one of these things are set off.
I work for a volunteer rescue organization and it's all hands on deck when one goes off.
It does not matter where you are, all alarms go to a central 24 hour 7 day a week response base.
The signal is analysed and can be triangulate by any emergency response group.
The signal also pulses in such a way, that as you approach it, you can see the signal changing.
EPIRBS and PLBs save lives
I would never go to see or into our dangerous country without one.

That's nice. Many people get in trouble there or not that much to respond to?
