As you said, it isn't rocket science. Trump likes to proclaim his genius all the time but he has done nothing like that. He just wants to prevent them entering the US. He doesn't care what the US has done to create the conditions in their home countries which they are fleeing.

What is required is for the US to stop treating "south of the border" as a place to be exploited. That will never happen though. Cuba had the right idea - throw the Mafia and the Sugar companies out. Educate the masses and try and create work for them in Cuba or send them overseas to work. I have a friend who manages a hospital in Dubai - it is staffed by Cubans.

Oh, dearie, dearie, me. The UN is powerless here. It can only share it's moral outrage that a member state which was once the champion of the UN Refugee Convention and who largely created it, itself after WWII now finds it inconvenient to abide by it.

Their is a significant slice of the American population who came to the US as refugees, who are descended from refugee migrants and who understand what their nation's heritage is. They refuse to abide by the rule of the "Know Nothings". They refuse to revile in ignorance. Unlike Trump and his rump.
