It seems that we have a Lemming syndrome.

Continually trying to find more and more inventive ways to kill and torture each other
Even the most innocent inventions are twisted into weapons.
And everyone will do anything for money, no matter how much it poisions people or the environment.

We truely are a sad species.

Intelligence leads to destruction of beings.
That is why we don't find any other civilisations in the galaxy -
they always wipe themselves out quickly -
not long after they discover nuclear weapons.

We are only here from short term luck.
Could be but I think the issue is we over estimate the probability that life will evolve to be as technological as us.

It never happened before here on earth. We only started down this path in create seriousness since Newton and the scientific process, post enlightenment.

I feel we may be more unique in the universe than we think.

I feel it's quite possible that there were many civilisations -
it could have been a billion years ago or more -
that were up to the same development as us & then wiped themselves out.
That's why we'd never know about it.

You have to remember too that any civilisation could easily
be wiped out by other things such as an asteroid or a nearby supernova etc.

We have only been able to communicate via radio signals for just over 100 years
a very narrow window in our history compared to the age of the universe.

Na, I call His analysist wrong.
Statistically there is still a much greater chance we have room mates.
Tend to agree on that.

Well, they have not contacted us yet
Well according to legend/s they (not necessarily only 1 species BTW) have contacted, met and interacted with us many times.
Sure some ancient pictograms and stories are bound to be based on imagination alone, but all of them? ... Seems unlikely.
Many stories/legends of gods who decended from the heavens when rationalised against our current scientific and technological understanding give the impression of
physical rather than ethereal beings possessing scientific and technological understanding advanced to those who recounted the event/s.

Just the fact that viruses have been discovered in space (or on objects in space - thus not on Earth) is proof enough of life (in some form at least) elsewhere.
It is even theorised that life on Earth actually began with a virus who hitch hiked a ride here on an asteroid. Now if you consider that all the elements on Earth
originally came from elsewhere in space, and that all those elements plus some not on Earth are elsewhere in our universe, it seems highly probable that when the
conditions are favourable life can emerge and evolve almost anywhere. And even when most of the life forms on Earth get smashed to extinction, the survivors mutate
and evolve into something new.

Seems we're on a similar plane on this topic Bob.
According to some Amerindian tribal legends mankind has been technologically advanced and wiped out civilisation 4 times already.
While I can be quite dismissive of what I consider obvious fairy tales, I'm still open to many possibilities.

Admittedly Graham Hancock researches topics that to be honest seem a waste of time, but I consider a rather large book (took about 2 months to read) he wrote - 'Underworld' (costed $50 in 2007) - is a real eye opener on a range of topics. It includes some of Hapgood's ancient maps - which fit with Earth during the last ice age, and give the appearance they were drawn by someone with the capability of flight.
The impression I got from 'Underworld' is that humans had some level of civilisation and technology either before or during the last ice age, and that our true history is being deliberately hidden from us due to some religious and political agenda within the field of archaeology but not palaeontology. It also answers many questions regarding climate change, especially with regard to Precession of the Equinoxes/Axial precession.

Some of the underwater photos of structures and rock carvings leave no doubt in my mind that remnants of our last/prior civilisation is now submerged.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

It's quite possible.
Even 200,000 year old fossils of human like ancestors had large brains.

I am with Skippy. To think we are IT in the universe (and there could be an infinite number of universes out there) is extremely arrogant and typical of what we are.

Why haven't they contacted us? Why would they want to?
Exactly. If they have the ability to contact us they are probably far more advanced then us.

You are more advanced then a cockroach. Do you go out of your way to say hello to a cockroach?

I dont think your analogy is a particularly good one Raven, Cockroaches can not modify there environment as we can , we would be of interest to intelligent life for the same reasons that we are interested in them
