In India

Post by Black Orchid » Sun May 06, 2018 12:48 pm

Indian police have arrested 14 people suspected of kidnapping, raping and burning to death a teenage girl, the latest in rising crimes against women in India despite the toughening of laws.

Around 100 rapes reported in India per day, 40% involving children, while countless more go unreported

District Magistrate Jitendera Singh said the group abducted the girl from Chatra, a village in eastern Jharkhand state, while she was attending a wedding ceremony on Thursday.

Some of them allegedly raped her before letting her go home.

After her parents reported the crime, village council leaders ordered the accused rapists to do 100 sit-ups and pay a 50,000 rupee (A$990) fine as punishment, according to the BBC.

Enraged by the punishment, Mr Singh said the suspects beat up the girl's family members for complaining against them and burned the 16-year-old alive.

Mr Singh said police were searching for the main suspect in the case.

100 rapes reported nationally every day
Reported rape cases in India have climbed steadily over recent years to around 40,000 in 2016, or about 100 a day, with many more believed to go unreported.

Child rape accounts for about 40 per cent of the reported cases.

Anger over the failure of police to stem daily sex attacks on children and women has boiled over since 2012, when a student was gang-raped and murdered on a moving New Delhi bus.

That attack galvanised a country where widespread violence against women had long been quietly accepted.

Several cases of sexual assault of children have come to light in recent weeks from different parts of the country, leading to an outpouring of anger.

The government introduced the death penalty for the rape of girls younger than 12 last month after a particularly gruesome case of rape and murder of a Muslim girl in Jammu and Kashmir state.

While the government has passed a series of laws increasing punishment for rape of an adult to 20 years in prison, it is rare for more than a few weeks to pass without another brutal sexual assault being reported.

100 reported rape cases every day and the reported cases probably barely scratch the surface.

Burning a young girl alive, after raping her, because they had to do 100 sit ups?

Unbelievable!

It just so happens I was in a yogic cult so have some insight into Indian culture.

From my experince Indians tend to fall into 2 categories - the naive/innocent and sleazy/vicious.
Before partitioning of India and Pakistan 1 in 4 Indians was Muslim. Muslims invaded I forget how many centuries ago (at least 4) and were quite sadistic to the Hindus. Now 1 in 5 Indians are Muslim.
When the Brits had control of India the used the Muslims as overseers of the Hindus. Upon independence Hindus saw their opportunity the get revenge and expel the Muslims, generating a pseudo-civil war. The Hindus initiated it with attacks on Mosques and the Muslims retaliated by fire bombing train loads of Hindus. Muslims went north and Hindus went south, resulting in Pakistan being carved off India.

Hinduism is ancient, only Shintoism is older. Eons ago a Hindu empire stretched from Iran in the west to Indonesia in the east and Cambodia to the north. Because Indians have had civilisation for such a long time, many Hindus think they're special and believe they should be a protected species like Jews. They resented being conquered by people who still lived in caves (the Brits) when they'd had civilisation for millennia.

Hindus had 4 classes: priest cast at the top - everyone must give them privileges, today are doctors, lawyers ect ; warrior caste - only ones allowed to be kings/rajas, today are police, army and civil servants ; merchant caste - own the shops/businesses ; worker class - do menial labour.
Since independence a new caste has been created for the indigenous Indians : untouchables/dalit, who are not allowed to be educated and prevented from interacting with the rest of society ... for example they cannot sit on a seat in a restaurant, they must sit in the gutter - dalits are genetically identical to the Australian aborigine.

Hinduism is a mixture of pantheism and animism. The upper castes tend to comprehend its mythology metaphorically, and the poor often subject to malnutrition believe it literally ... as in Shiva really did resurrect Ganesh with a baby elephant's head.

Many hippy types tend to think Hinduism is all peace love and flowers, but really it's very conservative and misogynist.
For example the ritual of 'suttee' - where when a husband dies, the wife is drugged up by the family and she walks onto his funeral pyre (being burnt alive) which is pushed out into a river. The Brits banned it, but the Brahmins/priest cast and Kshatrias/warrior caste have reintroduced it in recent decades.

In Hinduism a woman's husband is her life, and if he dies it's her fault. His family then take possession of the home/assets and kick her out.
If she's lucky her maiden family might take her back, but many wind up on the street.
Once widowed she is not allowed to remarry (he can) and must shave her head to make herself unattractive.
If she tries to attend temple without shaving her head, the devotees throw rocks at her.

In Fiji (more than 50% Indian) Hindus don't follow these misogynist traditions.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

The population of India is around 1.4 billion, the majority living in povety , to brand them all as child rapists would be the same as branding all Americans as mass killers, You guys need to get a grip of your selves and find a bit of perspective..

As common as rape to humiliate or acid attacks for marriage proposal rejections are, the attack on this particular girl was sectarian motivated.
The rapists/killers are Hindu, the victim was Muslim.

Originally upon independence Mohandas Ghandi and Mohammad Ali Ginner worked together.
Once the pseudo-civil war erupted Ginner knew Muslims only option was a separate nation, which Ghandi initially opposed.
When agreement was made and the boundaries being drawn up Muslim majority Cashmere was supposed to go to Pakistan, but Cashmere is owned/ruled by a Raja (Hindu) not a Sultan (Muslim) so India reneged on the deal and Pakistan has been attacking in one way or another ever since.

Muslims being Muslims perpetrate quite a bit of crime against non Muslims (Hindus) in Cashmere just like anywhere else they go.
This generates quite a bit of hatred by Hindus against Muslims and the Hindus have the law on their side.
So the rape and burning of a Muslim girl was an attack on the Muslim population in general/at large.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
