I would rather be dead.
I'm suprised that people on the dole don't top themeselves -
in fact I bet a lot of them do but

Sure. The "unemployment benefit" is for people who can prove that they have NOTHING in the bank. If you have been wise enough to have some savings, you will NOT get the "dole" until you are penniless ... that's the way it works.

IF you lose your job, your best reaction is to try to get ANOTHER JOB .... instead of lining up at Centrelink, line up at the "employment agency", where ever that is, or bug the local industries or whatever. Work is work and if you are, say, an Electrical Engineer or an IT Expert, and can't get a job .... try something else .... anything is better than relying on the pittance you would get on the "dole" .... those on the "dole" are mostly people who have given up.

I have always said that somebody who is "unemployed" regardless, is unemployable .... if you are an Engineer and filling in doing Office Cleaning ... so? It means you WANT to work and not sit on your bum waiting for a job to "turn up". Even volunteering while unemployed is better than sitting around, on the internet, whining about "what a hard life you have".

Being cast out of the Garden of Eden needs to have real threat value and this is how things work.... that's why both major parties are conservative.

The dole is low to scare the shit out of people working in dingy, unsafe jobs
to make them keep on working and paying taxes.
We all know horror stories of what happens to people who lose their jobs.

People on the dole do NOT pay "income tax". Pensioners (on the Age Pension) do NOT pay "income tax".

Sure - I was out of work in 2013 for 10 months and didn't get a penny from Centerlink
because I had money in the bank.
All those taxes I paid to help other people who were out of work
didn't come back to help me when I had no income.
BTW - that was under a Labor Govt.
The Libbos are even more cruel.

We live in a dog eat dog capitalist society - we have to face that fact that
no one cares about you if you lose your job - even if you were slowly dying in a gutter.
Especially the politicians -

they don't care about you at all - at all - at all.

If we stopped bringing in unemployable immigrants and plopping them on disability (in their 20s) there would be more for Aussies who have spent their lives paying taxes and then fall on tough times.

Agreed.

But this won't stop quasi conservative parties immigrating votes.

Oh, Bobby, WE do care but it really is up to YOU to care for yourself.

I know people who got "retrenched" and did they sit around, hoping that Centrelink would help? No way. They got out there and found "employment" ... even if it was lower than what they were qualified for. Next thing they are Manger of whatever .... change of employment. Go drive a truck, clean offices, windows or gutters. Sitting around feeling "depressed" is the worst thing you can do. Besides, if/when you do get an interview in your "qualified" field, you can tell them that you have been working and not sitting around on your bum. They will be impressed. :thumb

Scott never mentioned immigration in his budget -
another huge ommission.
What is the cost to our economy of all the welfare created by immigration?

The first 3 months when I was out of work I loved it -
then I got bored - my bank account was going down fast and I wanted to do something again.
I agree with you - I applied for lots of jobs & was eventually successful.
