The thing bit me twice because the idiot owner was texting on her mobile phone and had it on an extendable lead that was not locked. She lived nearby and called her father in a panic and he came running along with a bandaid. Can you believe that? A bandaid???
Anyway I have had one of those dogs in the past and it never bit anyone. I have also had Rottweiler x German Shepherds who were HUGE dogs at over 85 kgs. Again they never bit anyone. I will admit I had to watch friend's kids like a hawk because they always ran off to torment the dogs. My kids never did that.
I think the blame lies mostly with the owners who just don't know how to treat their dogs. It also lies with parents who let their kids run rampant around dogs and expect everything to be ok.
I would NEVER NEVER own a pit bull though. Anything that ugly has to have problems.
yes, and people that own then are untrustworthy.
Don't let them in your gate.

Where I live is inundated with Asians (and I DO mean inundated with them) and they ALL have either a Maltese or a Pomeranian and ALL of those dogs are out of control. They do NOT know how to look after them. They treat them like little dolls. They yap and they bite but it isn't the dogs' fault.
I detest Australian Bull Terriers. They are ugly and they have an inherent killing nature. My brother in law had one that looked exactly like that in the pic and they also had a cat. They grew up together but the pig dog's eyes are bad and get worse as they age. One day the cat jumped off the fence and the dog just automatically grabbed it by the neck and ripped its head off. It was just instinct. They are the only breed of dog I cannot stand.
American Bulls are totally different.
they are a similar killing machine

It's been interesting watching my 1 y/o and silky x maltese x ?? navigate each other. My dog is a rescue and can be a bit of a cranky pants, gets a bit growley but never actually bites.
The baby has been pulling his ears and tail, and he gives a warning growl but handles it.

I did a similar thing with my corgi ... he'd give a warning growl too but ... I never left him alone with the baby, obviously, just in case.
Small dogs don't attack people ... a cat is more likely to scratch a baby/infant for pulling their tail than a dog will bite them ... and cats can climb into a baby's cot and suffocate them.
I certainly would NOT leave a large dog with a small child who is prone to pull ears/tail etc. Large dogs consider "things" smaller than they are as fair game! They'll even take on larger "things".
I remember walking home from work (via the bus) years ago and as I walked past a neighbourhood house a large dog (Doberman or something similar) came charging out, growling and showing its teeth. I was terrified but I stood my ground ... literally ... looked at the dog and said (in my deepest voice) .. SIT DOWN! It took one look at me and went back into its area. Phew! At least that dog appeared to be "trained" and I was lucky.
