U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Wednesday appeared to threaten to disrupt Chinese crude oil shipments to North Korea following the hermit kingdom's test of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday.

China's refusal to completely cut off energy exports to North Korea have been a sticking point as the United States leads the charge to rein in Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.

Haley revealed during a speech at the United Nations headquarters in New York City that President Donald Trump called Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday morning to tell him the time has come for China to cut off crude oil supplies to North Korea.

"We now turn to President Xi to also take that stand. We believe he has an opportunity to do the right thing for the benefit of all countries. China must show leadership and follow through. China can do this on its own, or we can take the oil situation into our own hands," she said.

It was not immediately clear what actions the United States would take, but the Treasury Department has developed sophisticated sanctions over the last decade. Those sanctions, leveraging the economic heft of the United States, can be used to lock companies out of the global financial market.

China announced in September it would reduce shipments of refined petroleum products to North Korea to 2 million barrels per year. Last year, China sent 6,000 barrels of oil products per day to North Korea necessary to keep its agriculture, transportation and military sectors running, according to the U.S. Energy Administration.

China continues to send North Korea crude oil, the raw input for fuels like gasoline and diesel. China ships an estimated 10,000 barrels per day to North Korea's only operating refinery near the Chinese border, EIA says.

Haley said that crude oil is the driver of North Korea's nuclear program. She noted that North Korea came to the negotiating table shortly after China briefly cut off oil shipments in 2003. U.S. sanctions have helped to disrupt 90 percent of North Korean trade and 30 percent of oil imports, she said.

"We need China to do more," she said. "That would be a pivotal step in the world's effort to stop this international pariah."

You know it pains me to see how Australian Politicians have allowed the Chinese so much leeway.

Back during the Nixon administration a plan was devised to deal with China in a non-military manner that we felt would slowly convert the Chinese from a Communist system to a Capitalist system and it basically worked however the Chinese Communist Party still hangs on to power.

The plan was to allow the Chinese access to the worlds largest consumer market that is the United States as we felt if we allowed the Chinese to make money and get wealthy thus wealthy people tend to become educated and educated people will cast off communism.

What we underestimated was how badly the Communist Party would want to hold on to power.

China is no longer a communist nation as their party struggles to make itself remain relevant.

China has bought up a lot of the best property and

Henry Kissinger and Nixon using a large number of U.S. Think Tank Studies decided that the best and easiest way to convert Communist Red China into a Democracy was to allow China unfettered access to the massive U.S. economy.
The concept was to convert a Communist System into a Capitalist System and it worked.
The thing is the Chinese Communist Party even though China is no longer communist is holding on to power anyway they can.
Militarily China is not even close to a match to the United States.
China has zero force projection capabilities.
Thus we are playing the long game.
You NEVER have to worry about China militarily if your as Aussie as we would wipe them out the moment they tried anything.

Bobby we have 330 Million US Citizens and at least 40 Million non-citizens in the United States.

When you have that many people there are bound to be a few nuts.

If you were to visit the United States you would understand that the VAST majority of American's live in RURAL AREAS.

American's as far as the majority do NOT like living in cities.

Now I live in Massachusetts which is a small state of close to 7 Million and I do not even lock my doors at night.

Everyone and I mean EVERYONE owns a gun or rather multiple guns as most people have rifles, shotguns and handguns as well as compound bows.

People here are very kind and nice and would give you the shirt off their backs if you asked them to.

Unless you have been here you have no understanding of what the United States is like as you watch too many Hollywood movies.

We are a VERY Militaristic society as just about every family has MULTIPLE FAMILY MEMBERS who are either in the US Military or were.

There are THOUSANDS of Military Bases all over the United States as well there are over 1000 US Military bases worldwide.

People here have a DEEP sense of patriotism and we are not afraid of terrorist nor are we afraid of anyone or any nation.

There are more Nobel Prize Winners that come from the US than any other nation by a factor of 10.

We are NOT in decline.

China reports it has 1.4 Billion people but actually the number is about 1.7 Billion as they purposely under report their population numbers to keep Human Rights Groups off their ass,

China has a $8 Trillion Economy using 1.7 Billion people.

The US has a $20 Trillion Economy using 330 Million People.
