This what I hate too.Black Orchid wrote:I found a couple of boxes of old clothes in the garage of mine and the kids. They are still in immaculate condition and the tags all say Made in Australia. Such a shame that everything is now made in China or Bangladesh. It used to be the cheap things that were made there but now all the expensive labels carry a Made in China label too.
My youngest just came back from the USA and he bought lots of clothes there. ALL were made in the USA and the quality is so far over and above the crap we are dumped with here, it's not funny.
I was in Melbourne last week and decided I'd buy a new pair of boots and some new jeans.
I'm a bit of a snob about what I wear so I don't go to the cheap places for either.
Problem is, even the expensive brands are made in China.
I came home with nothing but went shopping in Byron during the week and picked up a pair of boots for 200 bucks, made in Portugal, which is better than China in my eyes and they were cheaper than the boots I was looking at in Melbourne.
I also picked up a pair of jeans at a local store that are made in Italy, they were on special for 150 which is a hundred bucks cheaper than some of the jeans I saw in Melbourne that were made in China.
I know they're not made in Oz, but to me it's about buying quaility and a name brand made in China does not represent quality to me.
Back in the eighties I was a sales rep for a company in Sydney that went bust as they could not compete with Chinese imports. So I have always paid attention to where a product is made ever since.

Your ideology will die a death in the long run. You should invest in renewables and climate change companies so that when the whole world wakes up your shares will skyrocket as we will need to invest in undoing what your short term thinking ideology destroyed. Ignorance is bliss, enjoy your bliss and leader of the stupid world making his point that has highlighted what a danger to the future muppets in leadership positions are.
Science and fact deniers should be rounded up, put on an island that is under a dome to be allowed to choke themselves to death on their own pollution. In a closed system that doesn't involve the rest of us would teach them how important the issue is if they could feel the affects in less than a quarter.
Next you will be advocating the teaching of Creationism in Australian schools.

It is a shame for the last 30 years we have been killing Australian industry buying cheap imports. What fools we have been. Those countries that had some protectionism, even if it was just supporting local industry are doing much better than Australia. We have the most resources per capita and were a smart country that has been led by short term global economy apologists that have left us with nothing but the option of "sell the ranch".

I've made more money over the last 3 years shorting every global warming scam stock market listing than every other stock in my portfolio.
It's an absolute sure fire winner because Gumby's like you believe the hype without understanding the limitations, so you deserve some kudos as well. If it wasn't for idiots like you, I wouldn't have come up with this investment strategy.

Play short term on the market is the way to go as an individual. That is the capitalist game. Good on you.
In terms of the long term health of the environment the decision by the US to not play will jut affect their ability to influence the world. The world needs a strong USA. It's weakening influence is a risk for us all.
Winning the gamble with your share portfolio is great.
Do you advocate destruction... that is always good for the economy, lots of activity in the rebuilding phase. A major boost to an economy. Plan to sell your shares and go for renewables in 2 years time just before Trump gets thrown out would be a good strategy in your plan.

Re: Dear Green Lefth Swampfilth...
So the companies of the US, support the climate agreement.
You will say it is up to each company... and I see that various states will continue.
America Inc snubs Trump to carry on going green after Paris climate accord withdrawal
“Withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement is bad for the environment, bad for the economy, and it puts our children’s future at risk,” Zuckerberg wrote.
As the world’s fifth richest man with a fortune of $64bn (£50bn) said, the president’s decision would have no bearing on the efforts of his own company to go green: “For our part, we’ve committed that every new data centre we build will be powered by 100% renewable energy.”
Zuckerberg, 33, is not alone. Amid the waves of indignation that swept the world in the aftermath of Trump’s announcement on Thursday, another theme has emerged: politicians and executives within America and elsewhere have said they would continue their efforts to cut emissions.

Yep! PV solar cheapest of all, to set up and over the life time of every power source going.IQS.RLOW wrote:Nope. Intermittent, unreliable, unstable and highly inefficient energy sources are actually worse than useless in every case whether standalone or connected to a grid. They barely rate for 3rd world level subsistence.Outlaw Yogi wrote:PV/silicone solar panels and mini turbines are good enough to compete with coal and gas on their own terms,
because ultimately PV solar is the cheapest in the long run
Even if the RET subsidy scam didn't exist and the energy market wasn't massively distorted, plenty of people would still obtain PV solar panels and solar hot water heaters, because #1 it's cheaper than getting mains power hooked up, and #2 you save a $hitload on energy costs.
Just last year the Australian ran an article about the CEO of Australia's biggest coal mine who bought a rural property and was quoted $25k to get mains power put on, so he put a $17k solar power set up in instead and has no power bills.
Big windmill style turbines are the intermittent, unreliable and unstable dud that has proliferated due to the RET subsidy scam and sent SA into near state wide blackouts 4 times within the last 12 months.
That's why I say abolish the RET and let all the power options compete on a level playing field.
In the US hydrogen fuel cells are replacing diesel back up generators in hospitals in case of black-outs.
(admittedly they're a dud for electric cars due to power to weight ratios)
Currently the high cost of platinum is holding the marketability of this product back.
But new metallurgic and chemistry developments will change that (which is what the battery industry needs).
When that happens diesel generators used to power isolated communities will be replaced with fuel cells.
The viability of whatever option depends on the economics.
I'm not particularly interested in the "low CO2/CO2 free" rhetoric, because I don't believe CO2 is causing GW/CC. 90% of CO2 on this planet comes from phyto-plankton in the oceans, so if CO2 is the culprit, why aren't we wiping out phyto-plankton? ... I don't believe it's CH4 either. 70%+ of CH4 comes from termites, so why aren't we poisoning all the forests?
So for heating (inside caravan or donga) I use gas (CO2 emitting methane), and to save money on gas I cook with CO2 and CH4 emitting firewood. It's just a matter of economics.
EDIT ADDITION: When I put a slow combustion fireplace in the caravan and a pot-belly stove in the donga, I'll be even more economical, and more carbon emitting.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

I'm long on my bank holdings for CBA, NAB and ANZ. CBA I picked up in 2009 for a just under $39. The dividends are returning well over 20%Sir Bobby wrote:Hi IQ,IQS.RLOW wrote:Super Nova wrote:Good come back potsie.IQS.RLOW wrote:Go sob in a corner, panic merchant.

I dumped Westpac because of their SN like environancy cocksucking.
Cheap to set up but useless as a power source. A kinetic energy system is also cheap and will last a lifetime.Outlaw Yogi wrote:Yep! PV solar cheapest of all, to set up and over the life time of every power source going
It doesn't mean they are good for running a consumser household, let alone any industry.
Nope. Without a feed in tariff (the one that they whack on every consumer who hasn't joined the enviro-mentardals), they are next to useless and couldn't power a beer fridge.Outlaw Yogi wrote:Even if the RET subsidy scam didn't exist and the energy market wasn't massively distorted, plenty of people would still obtain PV solar panels
It isnt and it doesn't. A storage system is required which is not cost effective and will be drained before it can be rechargedOutlaw Yogi wrote: #1 it's cheaper than getting mains power hooked up, and #2 you save a $hitload on energy costs.
Link? No mine will operate on solar alone let alone a piddling $17k system which I would estimate at ~ 15KW maximum without storage and is equal to around 5 standard 10A power points in a household if the sun was directly overhead, no clouds and was shining 24/7.Outlaw Yogi wrote:Just last year the Australian ran an article about the CEO of Australia's biggest coal mine who bought a rural property and was quoted $25k to get mains power put on, so he put a $17k solar power set up in instead and has no power bills.
It's far cheaper and more reliable to use a diesel genset for off grid applications, which is actually what everyone who isn't an idiot or getting a subsidized by the taxpayer does.
