Trump and the Doomsday Clock
Scientists moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock closer to midnight on Thursday amid increasing worries over nuclear weapons and climate change.
Each year, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a nonprofit that sets the clock, decides whether the events of the previous year pushed humanity closer or further from destruction. The symbolic clock is now two-and-a-half minutes from midnight, the closest it's been to midnight since 1953, when the hydrogen bomb was first tested. Scientists blamed a cocktail of threats ranging from dangerous political rhetoric to the potential of nuclear threat as the catalyst for moving the clock closer towards doomsday.
“This year’s Clock deliberations felt more urgent than usual…as trusted sources of information came under attack, fake news was on the rise, and words were used by a President-elect of the United States in cavalier and often reckless ways to address the twin threats of nuclear weapons and climate change,” Rachel Bronson, the executive director and publisher of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, said in a statement.
While many threats played into the decision to move the clock 30 seconds forward from where it was in 2016, one person in particular prompted the scientists to act.
"Never before has the Bulletin decided to advance the clock largely because of the statements of a single person. But when that person is the new president of the United States, his words matter," David Titley and Lawrence M. Krauss of the Bulletin wrote in an New York Times op-ed.

Re: Trump and the Doomsday Clock
He is obviously throwing his weight around but acting more like a CEO, than a Politician.
He hasn't be there long enough for me to make any comments about his "performance".
I am certainly not a fan of Trump, the Republicans tend to be a bit too "religious" for me, I am a Reformed Agnostic. Couldn't stand the Clintons though.
Not that it matters, I am an Aussie so couldn't vote either way anyhow.

The problem with Doomsday prophecies, of which the Doomsday Clock is just another, but not using a calendar and presented in the guise of 'science' is they never get it right, and I'm really disappointed.
'Coz as a wannabe doomsday nutter and pseudo-survivalist who hates this parasite infested world I'm waiting for civilisation to fall over so I can play Mad Max for real and see all you modernity addicted wimps cry for salvation that won't come.
So if the Donald invokes WW3, all the better and the sooner the better.
Besides, we need a good war to boost manufacturing and hasten runaway global warming.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Doomsday clocks are an invention of SJW and are a completely useless measure of sweet fuck all, but media and marketing suits think that adding "scientist" to their little blurb will give it some kind of legitimacy that idiots on social media will pick up and repost bullshit that mean fuckall.Outlaw Yogi wrote:The problem with Doomsday prophecies, of which the Doomsday Clock is just another, but not using a calendar and presented in the guise of 'science' is they never get it right, and I'm really disappointed.

Well Gorby thinks otherwise even if you don't believe in the clock.IQS.RLOW wrote:

Mikhail Gorbachev: It 'looks as if the world is preparing for war' as nuclear threat re-emerges
Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that a new arms race means "the nuclear threat once again seems real" as he stated it "looks as if the world is preparing for war".
The former Soviet leader called on Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to work together to take steps to reduce the world's nuclear arsenal.
"Politicians and military leaders sound increasingly belligerent and defence doctrines more dangerous. Commentators and TV personalities are joining the bellicose chorus. It all looks as if the world is preparing for war," he wrote in an article for Time magazine.
Mr Gorbachev said the US and Russian presidents should champion a resolution at the UN Security Council to guard against a nuclear conflict.

Please be controversial Mr G, we will pay you lots if you do and won't pay you at all if you don't.
Then we will spin anything you say as "Trump is going to [insert bullshit here]"
Jeezus Christ, you softcocks will shed tears over every little spin that is thrown your way.
Try some critical independent thinking instead of what some biased journalist tells you what to think.

Couldn't have phrased it better myself.
Righto, so all the sooks are fretting about the big bad Trump being trigger happy.
Well personally I think it's just what this over populated world currently needs.
But I'm not counting on it because I reckon China's all bluff.
As many here already know, I'm a bit of a history buff, and a major component of history is war.
If you consider the time frame of peace between the end of WW1 and the start of WW2 is only 17 years, you'd have to admit it's a reasonably short period. Admittedly I'm generalising here, because in reality there's always been (small) war/s going on somewhere on this planet for aprox 220 years.
So war isn't just business (which it is), conflict is part of our nature. But then almost everything on this planet is in competition with something else, and so at war.
With the ever increasing pace of technology and human lifestyle I've long expected the peace time frame between WW3 and WW4 to probably only be about 5 years. And dispute Einstein's prediction that WW3 would be nuclear and WW4 would be fought with rocks.
I'm yet to find agreement on this, but as far as I'm concerned WW3 began in Syria in 2011 (precipitated by Arab Spring). While there have been no formal declarations of war (except by non state Jihadis) the reality is a plethora of nations are involved in the Syrian civil war and there are a heap of related and unrelated wars going on from North Africa, through the Mid East and into Central Asia.
The Westernised nations involved may consider it proxy war and police action but it's war all the same.
So for the anti-Trumpers to scaremonger about the Donald making a declaration or inciting another to make one seems quite hollow to me.
I'm of the opinion WW3 is (will be) against Islamic Jihadism and eventually (ultimately) a united Islam agaist virtually everyone else. And WW4 will be China, Pakistan and North Korea against U$A & friends.
But I'm now thinking rather than a 5 year peace gap between them, that WW3 and WW4 may actually overlap, meaning WW4 could begin before WW3 is over.
A US Vs China trade war may actually postpone China's readiness for war by slowing the technology transfer. Thus Trump may just prevent China's strike capabilities, temporarily.

Wow, paragraphs and paragraphs of motherhood statements and "stating the bleeding obvious"! Full of "may" and "as far as" , "I am of the opinion am concerned" other good ones are "the reality is" , and the real sucker punch "I am thinking" all with little to back it up with solid fact. That is the main problem with you rightards on here, you are too scared to read newspapers, form opinions, express and debate them less they conflict with your outdated reasoning passed on from your parents and grandparents and crap scared you might actually be wrong. You all disappear up your own fundamental orifice because you wont accept any opposing view to your own inbred idiology. You are bereft of anything of substance. try reading points and counterpoints and be of some value of here - if not you might as well return to watching reruns of Play School on Mum's TV
