Anger over support for multiple wives

Post by Black Orchid » Sun Dec 11, 2016 6:14 pm

Conservative MP Cory Bernardi says the payment of Centrelink spousal benefits to the wives of polygamous Muslim men is political correctness gone mad.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott called for action after learning about the issue, only to be told that it would cost more to pay them the single parent benefit, News Corp Australia reported on Sunday.

Centrelink said it did not hold data based on polygamous relationships or religion. The Islamic marriages are religious unions that are not registered.

"We are always told the data is not kept. I think that is a convenient excuse,'' Senator Bernardi told News Corp.
"(T)he lack of will to confront some individuals who seek to apply a different law to themselves means politicians are afraid to speak out.''

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann dismissed the story, saying the government doesn't recognise multiple marriages.
"The proposition that somehow the government is authorising polygamy, that is just completely ridiculous," Senator Cormann told Sky News.

He also rejected the suggestion the government was refusing to crack down on such payments because of some sort of political correctness motivation.

He said there are only two options for these payments - a single parent payment, which is higher than partner payments.

What is the solution to this problem? Pay them more on a single parent payment or condone polygamy?

They turn up to Centrelink in hordes and the left want to bring in truckloads more. All the while denying that polygamy in Australia exists and is purely a figment of our imagination.

Just read the article as well.

It looks like we are sooooooo afraid to confront the issue these days they can exploit our system. Who's at fault for that. It is the Politically Correct nambie pambies. No wonder the right is on the rise everywhere in the world.

I actually wonder if Centrelink support for families should have an upper limit applied,

why should we support massive numbers of children (and wives), I am sure some of these Musos would get a job if the gravy train was dryed up to some degree

Lets say maximum of four children, I might write to Pauline again!

They don't want a job and that is why they want to come here. It's ridiculous.

They will breed us out of existence soon enough and we should have strict criteria as to how many children will be supported on welfare.

PHONey Pauline Is On The Job

PAULINE Hanson has used reports of polygamy by Muslims to take advantage of spousal benefits to again call for a Royal Commission into Islam.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that Centrelink was paying spousal benefits to the second and third wives of Muslim men all living under the same roof.

Slamming the practice, Ms Hanson said mainstream political parties haven’t spoken out because they are “too gutless” to tackle this issue.

“If we keep appeasing these groups they will want more and more. They will keep going on and abusing us, our generosity and our culture,” Ms Hanson toldThe Australian.

The One Nation leader took aim squarely at the major political parties, “We have been taken for fools”.

“Second marriages are not acknowledged in this country or their children, and they should not be funded at all,” Ms Hanson said.

“It is against the law to have multiple marriages, but we are condoning it as taxpayers.”

Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison said on 2GB radio this morning that cases where polygamy was being used to claim multiple spousal benefits were “100 per cent wrong”.

But he said it would be more expensive for the government if each wife claimed an independent welfare allowance.

“The law and its implementation cannot condone polygamy. It’s against our values, it’s 100 per cent wrong,” he said.

Centrelink does not hold data based on polygamous relationships or religion, something Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi labelled “a convenient excuse”.

“We are always told the data is not kept,” he said as he joined Ms Hanson in her condemnation, saying the payments were “political correctness gone mad”.

“(T)he lack of will to confront some individuals who seek to apply a different law to themselves means politicians are afraid to speak out,” he said.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann told Sky News the suggestion that the payments were evidence the Federal Government was “authorising polygamy” was “ridiculous”.

He said the Centrelink payments made financial sense, because spousal payments cost less than the alternative, which is the single mothers’ pension payment.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott has also called for an investigation, saying he called for action late in his leadership, only to be told the practice would “cost more”.

It may cost more initially but it needs to be stopped. Maybe then these rorters may find some other country to sponge off.

I would also like to know what percentage are on DSP. Go Pauline!

If you stop it the sick hordes will infest another country. Better they go somewhere else than stay put infesting ours.
