That being said, researchers have found that people around the world, even people living in very sunny places, are deficient in Vitamin D. So take Vitamin D3, not D2. Australia's government is odd about supplements but not to the level of the EU (America is largely restriction free) so I don't know what doses are currently available there but I take anywhere from 5,000 iu to 10,000 iu daily. Pair that with Vitamin K. Some prefer MK-4 other MK-7. Dunno. Both Vitamin Ks have benefits. D & K are good for most everyone.
The government chastises and threatens Doctors who do "too many" Vit D deficiency tests. Like most Australians (strangely enough) I have a Vit D deficiency and my Doctor says the government gets really nasty if she does "too many".
you still have a Vitamin D deficiency? how can that be? it is easy to correct.

I went to a new GP back in 2007 and he ordered a lot of blood tests. Tests I had never had before. So I now take Vitamin D3, a Multivitamin that has a high dose (150mg) of Iodine (for my Thyroid) and a Multi B vitamin because I had a high homocystein level. Then after a month I had the tests done again and everything was normal, just by taking vitamin supplements. I have had those tests done at various intervals over the years and all continue to be normal. I hate taking pills (some are huge) but I do, every morning.

Ummmm if you have a high homocystein level.....you need to be taking aspirin every day. You are in danger of a heart attack and/or stroke. Forget vitamins....ASPIRIN is what you need to be taking. See your doctor ASAP.

PS. I was recently tested for that...the test came back negative.

My homocysteine level was only slightly above normal, I have had it retested several times and it is now back to normal, so no need to panic. I have apparently inherited the H63D gene (haemochromatosis). Everything is under control.

I have also got one of the haemochromatosis genes Nef, very common in people of Irish decent I think my Dr said, I gather it is more of a problem if you have the two genes if I recall correctly. Apparently important to have your kids checked especially boys.

My GP wrote it down for me as I am crap at remembering medical terms. I have 1 copy of H63D gene. I needed B6 to lower the level of homocysteine, now normal.

I have Celtic ancestors ... Scottish not Irish. Same difference, really. ;)

When I started taking the B6, I went back to have a blood test in about a month and asked the Pathologist what would happen if the B6 hadn't lowered the level and she said I would need to have blood transfusions! Thankfully, I didn't need to, but a friend's son in law has the same problem and he needed blood transfusions ... not sure how he is now. Fine I imagine. :D

As far as I know Nef mine just shows up as high levels of iron in my blood but no real need to do anything but monitor with my six monthly blood test!
