A neighbour (in the bush) on satellite NBN told me on Saturday that recently his download speed increased from 6-7 mega bites per second to 23.
I replied "Shit!, I used to get 33 mega bites per second on dial up in 2007.
(lived about 35km out of town -Bundaberg)

In the near future I intend to get a dongle so I can tap into the phone towers. According to what I've read in the paper it's alot faster.
(live about 100km out of town [Bundy] now, or 40km out of hicksville Gin Gin).

As millions of Australian homes wait for the NBN to reach their door, Lightning Broadband is deploying a wireless network promising fibre-like download speeds to suburban users.

Starting in Melbourne's inner suburbs with plans to extend to other state capitals, Lightning Broadband is connecting homes and businesses via 5.8 GHz microwave links capable of delivering 100 Mbps download speeds. The links also support 100 Mbps upload speeds, outpacing uploads on the National Broadband Network's fibre connections.

Of course the great NBN genius expert that once resided here would argue to the death that such technological advances were not going to affect his ultimate broadband networks in any way.
