EXPERTS fear an ice sheet the size of Queensland is melting so quickly it will cause massive storm surges capable of decimating Australia’s coastal cities within the next century.Satellite images recently captured by NASA show large sections of Greenland and Antarctica are vanishing at a much faster rate than previously thought.Because of this scientists now believe sea levels will rise by a metre over the next 100 to 200 years. And this is not good.“There is also about 150 million people that live within one metre of present day sea level, and so if sea levels rise by one metre, those people will be displaced. Many of our major cities around the world are close to sea level and also much of our industry and infrastructure is also close to the coast. The implications of rising sea levels are quite serious because a one metre rise would cause serious disruption not just to people on low level islands but to infrastructure and the economy in countries that have a coastline.”
Dr Rintoul said cities such as Sydney would be partly affected with areas above sea protected from the surges whereas a much lower lying city such as Brisbane would be at greater risk. Most of this extra water has come from melting ice and glaciers.
According to NASA, the Greenland ice sheet has caused the most concern, shedding around 303 gigatons of ice a year over the past decade. The Antarctic ice sheet has lost an average of 118 gigatons a year.
There is a lot more to read here- http://www.news.com.au/technology/envir ... 7515406455
Either NASA have been overtaken by alarmist Greenies " with an agenda" or we are in big shit.

Unfortunately it's the former...
As for seal levels the science is much more complicated as is the geography

Nice one Archimedes (roach). I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you know the reason and are hav'n a laugh. For those that don't.

1. Most of the ice in the world are not icebergs and are on land. So when they melt they add to the sea volume. The icebergs already in water have displaced the water so essentially they have no effect.
2. When the water increases in temperature, it's density reduces and the volume increases.

Oh dear... artic ice and sea ice shelves are not on land.
Not all land based water and ice flow to the sea or oceans.

The science is correct... it is alarmists that try to con people not me.

BTW the "warming" of water affects the volume very little.
Boil some water and check it out if you don't believe me.

When Barack Obama was born there were approximately 130000 glaciers through the world.

Today, that figure is still 130000.

 oh noes. It der gerbil warmenings coming to get us.

You pathetic little panic merchant sook.

Most fresh water ends up in the ocean either through rivers or evaporation.

Brilliant scientific observation Einstein. This explains a lot.

At equilibrium (that is, no extra water from the ice melts) sea-level rise for thermal expansion of 0.7 meters per Celsius degree change in temperature. While insignificant when you bring in the extra water from the ice melts.... it is a large number don't you think.

Come on SN... if your premise actually counted we have Waterworld... context and reality dear fellow, context and reality.

Really... went over your head did it...

Oh dear failed science... and reality

Why do you continue using this already debunked myth?

GW deniers have been claiming the British Met Office said "Global warming had slowed for 16 years".

The British Met Office claims it said no such thing and agrees with the NOAA claim that the planet has continued to warm,
the 10 hottest years on record are since 1998, and that some of the warming has been absorbed by the Pacific Ocean, and in turn raised
the temp of the Pacific Ocean.

The best thing about Global Warming is it's going to cook the Mid East, making life unbearable for Arabs, Persians and the Jews you worship.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
