There hasn't been a lot of media coverage (at least not in the online media) about this in Australia. I avoid TV News. Friends overseas have mentioned that they were getting fed up with the TV bombarding them consistently .... happens here as well.
I honestly haven't taken all that much notice.
Anyhow ... seems the POMS turned up in droves ... no "compulsory" voting over there.
It appears that David Cameron might be returned as PM ... with a majority!

Last week there was speculation that Cameron would lose the election. This win could mean that a large portion of the population couldn't be bothered voting. Voting should be compulsory over there.

Well either the Conservatives won the election because they are the most popular there or the Progs lost because they aren't. People too lazy to vote have no right to complain or make excuses.

It appears that the Leaders of Labour, Liberal Democrats and UKIP have all resigned.
Plus "they" are wondering how the Polls got it so wrong and are wondering why.

Everybody
knows that the ONLY Poll that counts is the one on Voting Day.

Everything I've read in recent weeks (via The Australian in print or Yahoo online) predicted the electorate was so divided with a multitude of parties and voter dissatisfaction that no party was likely to gain a majority, and whoever was elected would have to form a coalition to govern.
About a month ago, I read the Tories and Labor were so concerned about the increadibly fractured electorate that they were considering forming a coalition to keep a host of minor parties and the UKIP (anti-Euro independence party) at bay.
A few days ago, Yahoo ran a story regarding the UKIP disendorsing and expelling one of their candidates after he threatened to put a bullet between the eyes of a Sri Lankan born Tory candidate if that Tory candidate achieved his goal of becoming Britain's first asian PM.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Voting is compulsory in OZ and I don't vote.
I don't believe in compulsry anything.
The AEC tried to fine me years ago.
I replied ...
"I did not vote because I have no faith or trust in any of the political candidates or parties on offer. I won't pay a fine, I won't go t court, I doubt you can gaol/jail me for not voting, so get fucked" ... and never heard another word abut it.

It is NOT compulsory to vote in Australia, it is supposedly "compulsory" to register yourself on the Electoral Roll, especially when you change addresses.

So, if you don't turn up to Vote and your name IS on the Electoral Roll, you will get a letter from the AEC (to the address they have) telling you that you are fined $20 (at least it was) and if you don't pay that within 14 days, they will take you to Court.

I know too, as I have been there. The AEC is a Toothless Tiger.
IF voting was NOT "compulsory" in Australia, we might even get people who WANT to vote, voting. Until some are so sick of a Government that they will line up to vote to get rid of them. My vote really doesn't count .... if I can get out of doing it because the AEC has screwed up (and it has happened many times) great. Means I am almost anonymous.
What has happened in the UK is that people have flocked out to vote for the CONSERVATIVES (Cameron) rather than see Miliband in charge. Why? who knows but I see a lot of young people being typical (violent) Leftards!

good points, I doubt they have ever gaoled anyone in this country for not voting or paying a fine. I remember years ago I was still registered in my fathers address for voting even though I hadn't lived there for years and failed to vote at a council election and the wankers sent me a fine, I ignored it and never heard anything about it again.

I see the left in the UK has resorted to their base instincts after democracy has spoken and they didn't like what they heard, so the pissant losers have decided to riot - which is typical for lefties.
These people should be lined up and shot.
