“Interestingly, Russia’s economy is declining even as Russia’s assertiveness is increasing and one of the points that I tried to make to President Putin is that Russia would be so much more attractive if it was aspiring to be a superpower for peace and freedom and prosperity, if it was trying to be a superpower for ideas and for values, instead of trying to recreate the lost glories of tsarism or the old Soviet Union,’’

Mel (good to see you) - it is not Abbott's place to tell Putin how to run Russia or to badmouth him publicly. This is Abbott's biggest problem - his extreme arrogance. He's only a novice to the world stage as a leader, but the power has gone to his head. He should have stayed at the pulpit where he could preach to his heart's content.

I have to agree with Solonoid on this. I think Putin was treated shamefully. He didn't directly order the downing of the 317. Look at the massive errors the US makes with their indiscriminate bombings and wrong targets, but their leaders always get a hearty welcome wherever they go and aren't treated like pariahs.

Mantra, I read as far as "Mel it's not Abbots place" when I choked on my glass of creaming sodor and felt the need to volunteer you for Hitlers Hitlerjugend.

Seriously, don't you get it yet?

Obviously not.

I can't see why they all couldn't have put down their swords at the forum. Deal with Putin privately, but not discuss him with the rest of the world as though he is deaf, dumb and blind.

Are you suggesting we should simply assassinate Putin Mantra?

I think we have all learned that eliminating something from the media doesn't render it 'non existent'.

Poo-tin exists, and we need to address this.

I agree. Making a fool of him or causing him to lose face will mean he will have to be tougher with us to manage his domestic position.

He is a leader of a world power. Showing disrespect could backfire.... big time.

What I mean is... his position should be respected no mater what in these sorts of meetings.

Respect the rank/position they call it I think.
Always remember what you post, send or do on the internet is not private and you are responsible.

Sorry, I beg to differ...
He's best ignored.... The cold-war has now ended. Time Poo-tin knew this.

Mel (good to see you) - it is not Abbott's place to tell Putin how to run Russia or to badmouth him publicly. Yet he's never done that mantra... STOP LYING. This is Abbott's biggest problem - his extreme arrogance. Yet he isn't arrogant mantra that all made up in your head. He's only a novice to the world stage as a leader, but the power has gone to his head. Wrong again and most people in the know say he and Bishop have been a success on the world stage. He should have stayed at the pulpit where he could preach to his heart's content. More ad hom from the hater...

I have to agree with Solonoid on this. I think Putin was treated shamefully. No he wasn't. Give one example. He didn't directly order the downing of the 317. No but he supplied the missile and launcher and support and has annexed part of a sovereign state... do you admit that? are you happy about that? Look at the massive errors the US makes with their indiscriminate bombings and wrong targets, but their leaders always get a hearty welcome wherever they go and aren't treated like pariahs. Name one country the US have invaded and annexed? When the US accidentally shot down a passenger jet they owned up to it, apologised and paid compensation... so should russia.

I agree. Making a fool of him or causing him to lose face will mean he will have to be tougher with us to manage his domestic position. Well no one has done that and at home his face is fine.

He is a leader of a world power. Showing disrespect could backfire.... big time. Hasn't happened.

What I mean is... his position should be respected no mater what in these sorts of meetings. So you'd respect hitler? goodo

Time for uranium sanctions to be placed on Russia.
