Well said Jason. A lot of people in the 70's didn't go to uni, simply because they were bored with dedicating so much time to studying. Maybe if it was the bludge it is today, we might have reconsidered, but I doubt it. Most of our politicians took advantage of free tertiary education and have spent their whole life studying one thing or another mainly for personal gain. Maybe well educated people are superior in many ways and I don't have a problem with that as long as they put their education to good use and don't flaunt it.

The problem with this government is half the cabinet are dysfunctional males who are snobs and proud of it.

Being 'smart' does not make one superior over being 'clever'. A Doctor & a Surgeon are on equal par.
I know many deem 'white collar' (clerical) superior to 'blue collar' (labourer) but it really depends on the nature of the business and who earns the company/industry the majority of income. In many countries, a lot of businesses are 'owned' by the workers who employ managers, CEO's and the wages are respected with the main reason being that the workers at least have 'a job', by keeping another business afloat.

Just as the USA has problems with 'under-achievers' (rednecks), etc. I believe that OZ has a problem with 'over-achievers' or 'snobs' as you would put it. You know the type: they own a fast car, so automatically they think they should go faster than everyone else - even around a bend that says just 55kmphr at 130kmphr.

Not so long ago on Q&A with a discussion on Education. It was noted that a lot of 'Teachers' are a product of leaving the HSC and going into Uni straight after, to earn a Teaching degree to 'teach' kids how to cope with life outside of school. :WTF There is only a very small percentage of Teachers who were 'outside the system' that applied. That is, people who have 'life experiences' and 'experience' outside the system. Apparently it is harder to apply from outside the system, than it is directly from High School.

I topped my school in Engineering Science and got a Commonwealth Scholarship to learn teaching at the Sydney Teacher's College. NOT ALL TEACHERS LEARN THEIR SKILLS AT UNI. Where you do a course and tack on a Dip Ed with an extra years study.

In fact Teachers College is a much more comprehensive and targeted course, than going through University. You do many more Education oriented courses and you have a greater depth of education in your particular subject and how to teach it. You have a great deal more face to face practical teaching.

Personally I think the Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme was a good thing and should be reconstituted. There is nothing wrong with targeting and rewarding the better students in High School with a Commonwealth Scholarship, in fact it makes good sense.
DOLT - A person who is stupid and entirely tedious at the same time, like bwian. Oblivious to their own mental incapacity. On IGNORE - Warrior, mellie, Nom De Plume, FLEKTARD

Sounds pretty good to me.

Richard Marles says turning the boats back worked, Little Bill said there's no evidence of that... Tanya Plibersek, the leader of the prog left extremists, and Deputy Leader of the ALP, will not hear of a change in ALP policy.

Apparently they learn nothing.

Watched Shorten early this morning.
He doesn't give a hoot about what works or not.
He's just in it for his pay-packet and just goes through the motions saying 'whatever' without any real interest or passion.

As for Boat People.
Well, I remember the British smuggling their unwanted here 200 years ago, via Boats.
So there is some 'hypocrisy' there and we can see the effects when 'denial & lies' are established upon this.

At the most, no-one should be 'dumping' anyone on anyone else (or anywhere) because they seem 'over-populated'.
Address the problem of irresponsible over-population in the nation concerned.
Sri Lanka is abhorrant in not taking back its people because it seems to have 'too many'.
But if the British can do it, 200 years ago - I can see why every other nations want's to do it too.

Personally, I don't think the Liberals will be able to 'plug the dyke' indefinitely.
The Global Flood of Over-Population is going to pour into OZ in their millions ...especially when the Wars start erupting soon.

Care to refute, with some facts for a change?
