Maddie McCann's Parents Say Social Media Should Be censored

Post by mellie » Sat Oct 11, 2014 8:09 pm

Why, because a white, educated, politically connected and parentally negligent middle-class couple can't handle constructive public criticism?

If a low or zero-income couple from a public housing estate had have endured the same heartache from having left their three tots unattended whilst they were out enjoying themselves, would we be so sympathetic?

Hasn't Rolf already been fingered?

I have been experiencing a problem with censorship.

I have noticed the tenancy for TV channels and even newspapers to blur out the faces of people they have photographed. Its totally Orwellian.

If they don't want us to see the faces, why photograph them in the first place? I have seen politicians' faces blurred, criminals blurred, terrorists blurred, random children blurred, a whole footy team blurred by the ABC, I have seen people from the furthest distance on the planet, nowhere near where anyone could or cared to identify them, blurred. And on page 24 of today's AGE are two faces blurred. Why

Something rotten is developing here. I can only liken it to some dark authoritarian process such as might be found in Nth Korea or China. Though I don't know if they even do this.

Very Orwellain.

Old Rolf - the epitome of all things 'Aussie',
was being man-handled by his Pommie inmates who were trying to extort money from his outside resources.
He eventually 'paid' the system to move him to a safer place.

His Artworks have slipped in worth down to $10 a pop.
People who own some have hidden them in a cold dark place where spider webs gather.
To afraid to admit they own one, and be seen at Sunday stalls trying to flog it for a few bob.
A lot are being destroyed.

Now ...if only they admitted that JFK was a bit of a sex-addict too and an angry Daddy organised some idiot to take his frustration of getting 'nothing' in life, out on the President of Power.

Not really.

Because the consumers of media (except for radio) demand images, even if they're blurred.

Often it's because a case is before the courts, and the image is blurred to avoid a potential jury from being prejudiced by a "trial by media".

In the case of children's faces being distorted (and sometimes their family as well), that is par for the course, to kids from being identified. It's long been so.

I think I remember those footy team images. That was to do with the recent doping inquiry. Often they were using stock footage of footy teams training... so many of the individuals (or even the team itself) may not have been involved at all.

That's responsible self censorship (mostly), for good reason.

Nah.

He moved to Briton for good reason.
